I'm cool with it. ~ $1m for the 6/7 D is ok, especially when you're going to have 2 guys in the top 4 making < $2m.

I bet the guys on 93x are gonna give him some more hell now that he's been re-signed, haha. They love making fun of his last name.

As of right now he's the second-highest paid defenseman signed next season. And the second oldest.

Honestly, it's a pretty spectacular deal for a physical, steady, reliable UFA defenseman.
What's reliable about a guy with his injury history?
I've got nothing against Stoner, as long as he's a 6/7 guy, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here...
Stoner likely knows that his tendency for injury would've left him with few one-way deal options. It made a lot more sense for him to accept a reasonable deal with a team that's defense was already a mess. If he gets a short-term injury, he's that much more likely to come back as an injury fill-in when he's back healthy.

reliable shouldn't be part of any description of Stoner unless it's in the proper context: you can rely on him to get injured.

<-- Not a big Clayton Stoner fan (or Prosser for that matter).
Hopefully both are nothing more than 6/7 guys...

Not too bad of a price for someone with some experience, though.

So, assuming no further D-signings:
Scandella-Gilbert
Brodin-Spurgeon
Stoner-Prosser
Falk
It's important to note, of these players, only Scandella and Brodin are waiver exempt next year. We will also have Genoway (if re-signed), Kampfer, and Cuma under contract, but other than Genoway, they're waiver exempt. To lay this all out another way:
Need waivers:
Gilbert, Spurgeon, Stoner, Prosser, Falk, Genoway
Waiver exempt:
Scandella, Brodin, Kampfer, Cuma
Don't care:
Krupp, Caron, Bagnall, Medvec, Jobke, Lorenz (if signed)
Does a Stoner signing mean either Genoway or Falk (both RFA) is gone?

Given the depth problems we've had this year, I'd be surprised if we didn't go out and get at least one more D in FA.

Looking at the lineup squidz posted, it's nothing short of disappointing if Minnesota doesn't.

With the level of trust Team Sweden has in the kid and his experience in pro hockey, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Brodin getting big minutes and responsibility fairly quickly.
But if you can add a real top four D-man, slide Spurgeon down, you'd have a potentially not embarrassing blue line.
Again, here was our defense going into last year:
Zidlicky-Schultz
Spurgeon-Scandella
Zanon-Lundin

Signing a Colaiacovo or Oduya might be enough to make it passable.

Need a ton more experience on that blueline, an Oduya or Coliacovo would be huge for this team.
