The short answer is No. Unless there is some miraculous change in his status over the next 6 weeks, you just can't proceed as though he'll play. If by chance he does return, you can trade Mezsaros (the only reasonably close cap hit) to allow Pronger to play. His 2 years at 4M/year are moveable at this point.

I would say they're good. The current system is silly. It penalizes the teams and the ELC players. Forcing teams to make moves that serve to prevent players from meeting bonus thresholds is the exact opposite thing that the league and players should want. Furthermore, teams having to include bonuses that may or may not be met in their cap calculations basically reduces the overall pool of dollars available for veteran players.

That's what I was thinking, they should assume he is not coming back and proceed from there.

Yeah, Brière was so painful to watch defensively this season. He really should be moved permanently to the wing. He even got chewed out by Gustafsson at one point. The fact that he, despite leading the playoffs in even strength points so far, ended on a -6 really says it all.

Because we want him. We're the Flyers. Why shouldn't he want to come play for us? Shut up!

He'll have a whole bunch of suitors come July 1, if he even is a UFA by then, that's for sure. We can be over the cap by 10% during the summer, so Pronger's cap hit (along with Walker's and Bartulis') is essentially covered by that. After that, either Pronger has to go back onto the LTIR, or we might be forced to trade Meszaros or something like that. There is in fact a slight chance that we'll be able to fit both Suter and Pronger under the cap without having to trade anyone if the cap goes up a lot. That chance is of course very slim, but it does exist.

Edit: I should have looked at the next page...

Briere needs to move to wing, any team game planning against us just has to get their goal scorers on the ice at the same time as Briere. We saw this with Boston last year, and NJ and Pitts(I think)

Voracek for Chris Stewart ?

Two young forwards with a ton of potential. Both RFAs.

I think this could be a buy low opportunity with Stewart. He had a down year after two strong seasons. He seems to be a bad fit in Hitchcock's system but could excel again in an up tempo system. Plus, he would play with a good friend in Simmonds. (just think of all the "other black guy" jerseys). I think he would be what the flyers need in a tough checking division (6'3" 230lbs).

I realy like Voracek but he could be expendable with other speedy playmaker types like Read and Wellwood in the lineup. He is a strong two way player and a good playmaker that would fit into Hitch's system.

I assume the Flyers would have to add to the deal.

Hartnell - Giroux - Briere
JVR - Schenn - Stewart
Read - Coots - Simmonds
Sestito -Talbot - Wellwood

If Carle does get re-signed, maybe a lesser costing D-man would be needed instead of Suter.

I wouldn't do it straight up, and I wouldn't add to Voracek.

I'm willing to give him next year healthy with G for a full season...If he still doesn't improve then I'll be concerned but he had a tough season with injuries this year, let's hope he is healthy next year.

I actually like the idea of getting Stewart. A lot. I'd rather it didn't have to be for Voracek, though. That said, if I'm Homer, I'd at least be willing to listen if Doug Armstrong called.

Yeah, he was good in New Jersey.

However, San Jose fans have adamantly said that he was the worst defense in the entire league this year. Apparently, he was pitiful.

He wasn't good in NJ. He's part of the reason we beat them in 2010. He's no better than Walker.

What's wrong with Gustafsson? I thought he played decent as our #6. Certainly encouraging at least...encouraging enough not to bring in some rehash du du FA just to play #6.

It does say a ton. Like i said, he should be embarrassed with that. Were I a hockey analyst on the air, I would shred that guy.

Stewart had back to back 28 goal seasons and is only 24 y/o. Even in a down year he had 15 which was 3 less then Voracek. Not knocking Voracek but just saying the Flyers have other playmakers but Stewart is a big body that has shown he can finish.

It more then goals. The Flyers showed they can score. I am just looking at matching up against teams like BOS, NYR, NJ, and now WAS.
