Would you take Carle back?

Somebody posted this in another thread but couldn't post a poll

So, would you take him back?

Thanks for posting!

I am super curious to see the ratio of wanting Carle back vs not

This is a perfect setup, I cannot vote in the poll and thus, as the one who wanted it posted, there is no possible way for me to participate, just observe

No, unless he takes a really nice home town discount. If we can't land Suter, I'd rather aim a little lower because I believe that Carle (and Wideman) will receive a lot more than they deserve. Maybe a guy like Jackman migth be a good fit. I have never seen that Schultz kid play, but if he really can step right into the NHL that would be a great steal.

Well, there's not that many people that have voted yet. There's at least one other poster around these boards who will vote yes. Or, maybe that poster would actually prefer it if Carle left for some other team.

Oops, I didn't respond the way I wanted.

However, I think your thread title and poll question are very different.

"Would I take Carle back?" - Yes I would
"Would I like to re-sign him?" - That, I'm unsure of.

It alllll comes down to money. I've disliked Carle, and wanted to trade him for 2 years because I felt he was the logical piece to move for cap space. Now, SO many people hate on him it's become the popular thing to do. Fact of the matter is, the guy is a good hockey player. Far from perfect, but defenseman that play 22+ minutes and put up 40 points aren't exactly common.

fixed it for you

i dont care how many points he puts up, losing him makes this team better

Sure I'll take him back.

Not the best at defense but he can get the puck where it needs to be and there aren't too many of those guys on the market.

If they can sign Suter and Carle, with Carle making under 5 mil, absolutely. Then the Flyers could trade Mezz.

I think the poll should be changed regard what Carle might be making if we take him back.

Hometown discount -- Meszaros money -- I would gladly have him back. $5mil? **** no.

If Flyers could sign Suter, I would get rid of Carle and Kubina. Wish we could get our hands on Weber.

As I said on the NHL Flyers board, Carle has replaced Carter as whipping boy.

I expect him to sign for about the same as Coburn (I remember he was frowned on when Carle was doing well with Pronger as his partner). The UFA market for D looks rather skimpy making this re-sign our best option. That way we have 5 relatively strong defense & (omitting Timonen as we're not sure when he'll retire) gives us 4 strong pieces to use as part of a deal if an upgrade becomes available. A team trading someone better will want a top 4 in return.

I can't vote as I only joined the board this week but I see Carle re-upping.

I can't seem to edit the poll and for voting sake, just say the price for him is market value

The poll question doesn't make any sense without a price tag. I wouldn't mind to see him back under certain conditions, but others I would.

Then why wasn't he in the press box all year?

I dont really understand what he brings to team? Sure he can put up 40 points but he is a defensive liability who turns the puck over at will, isnt physical, and has no shot. Hopefully some GM not named Paul Holmngren overpays for him.

I don't want him re-signed for the money that I expect him to get, but he's more important to the team than most people give him credit for.

If you handle the puck you turn it over. That's just fact. I really, REALLY don't even like Carle very much but I feel the need to defend him.

Carle was 25th in the NHL in giveaways as a D-man.

Guys with more turnovers than him...some pretty good names in here.

John Carlson
Jeff Petry
P.K. Subban
Erik Karlsson
Dion Phaneuf
Brent Burns
Keith Yandle
Jake Gardiner
Kevin Bieksa
Zdeno Chara
Dennis Wideman
Dan Boyle
Filip Kuba
Drew Doughty
Carl Gunnarsson
Mark Streit
Hal Gill
Dan Hamhuis
Dan Girardi
Jay Bouwmeester
Luke Schenn
Brent Seabrook
Andrew MacDonald
Dustin Byfuglien

Yes he can't shoot at all, and he's pretty soft, but he's just really not that bad. Carle is the perfect example of Confirmation Bias.

I'm not saying I agree with this article entirely, because I do NOT think he is Ryan Suter, but the there is some truth here. See how he compares, to Chara, Keith, Doughty, Kimmo, Weber, Suter, and Yandle.

I can edit the poll to add options but some members have already chosen a response. If the response is "I chose yes, but not for more than..." that can be posted in the thread. Either way, let one of us know to edit.

Agree 10,000%

Although Homer seems to think we can get him below market. You'd think he'd have to exceed Coburn though right? Worries me a bit.
