TSN Off-Season Game Plan for Wild

If the mods move this article into an already existing thread I understand but it's a pretty lengthy article and it goes relatively in-depth about the Wild so I thought it deserves its own thread.

I was going to post this article so figure it might as well be its own thread.

Think Cullen hit the nail on the head with defense and maybe prospects. Other than that, it's fairly pessimistic although Minnesota really doesn't have much built up goodwill.

Thought it was a good read. Nice to see an article written about the Wild without any spelling mistakes or wrong player names for once.

I liked looking at his projected lineup for next season:

Daniel Paille ($1.250m) / Darroll Powe ($1.067m) / Nick Johnson ($0.650m)

Jared Spurgeon ($0.527m) / Clayton Stoner ($1.050m)
Steven Kampfer ($0.850m) / Jonas Brodin ($1.475m)
Nate Prosser ($0.825m) / Justin Falk ($0.700m)
GOALTENDERS
Niklas Backstrom ($6.000m)
Matthew Hackett ($0.900m)
BUYOUTS
Mark Parrish ($0.928m) / Cam Barker ($0.542m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,321,944; BONUSES: $1,030,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $6,978,056

Hopefully we can get someone better than Paille to fill out our roster though. With the cap presumably going up to $69MM, we'd be sitting just $4MM over the floor.

Why? That's pretty close to what our 4th line probably will look like. Just maybe have Paille/FA signing and Kassian switch every couple games or so.

I agree with his assessment.

Who knows what Bouch or Lats will be like in the fall. We need a top line forward, two top pairing or at least second pairing defense. We can't go into this season with this patchwork defense again.

But don't trade our prospects. I want the depth and to grow from within once our older guys start leaving/retiring when their contracts expire. There's just too much potential in these guys to throw them away at a single person for a trade.

I assume you meant player names. But, they messed up

"Even though Brett Bulmer was a second-round pick in 2010, it was a surprise that the stuck with the Wild out of training camp last season,"

What is Latendresse doing as a third-liner? That role doesn't make sense for him. Also I'm not sure we can pencil PMB in...it sounds like Latendresse is much farther along in his recovery.

I'm guessing Lats gets PMB's spot on that projected lineup, and that third line winger slot will be up for competition from Zucker, Larsson, Coyle, Phillips, and Bulmer.
