simply put i want him and his godam constant brain farts down the road..
hopefully to another team in our division so we can make use of his stupidity all season long..
I agree with all of that. I know very well he wouldn't take 1.5 million, but thats what a weak 3rd pairing d-man could go for. I would rather not see him at all but if I HAD TO, he would be part of the third pair
I'm not a huge fan..I think his current contract is actually somewhat fair value already for what he brings however other teams like Detroit I think are willing to overpay. It's all about value really.
He does deserve a raise if you judge that his workload increased (minutes) and he handled it fairly well. However, if we can replace him with Suter it would make more sense. The other option is for the Flyers to knock him down the depth chart and lower his minutes (minus the injury factor) so that he's less prone to being a liability with his brain farts.
Finally, he must learn to shoot better and on NET! Carle reminds me a bit like Doug Crossman (also became a bit of a goat) but at least Crossman was better at getting the puck on net. His D was inconsistent at times and I think Carle is a bit better in that respect but not by too much...
~ Played all 82 games. No glaring health concerns.
~ Doesn't hit, but blocks a lot of shots. Led our defense this year likely because of games the others missed, but he still gets in the way of 'em.
~ Good outlet pass, and is good at moving the puck up ice (key in our system).
~ Makes mistakes and has a decent amount of giveaways, but pair him with a Pronger-lite -- instead of Gustafsson, Bourdon or bad back/torn knee ligament Timonen -- and he'll do great.
~ Showed in the playoffs this year that he can step up and produce offensively and is good at jumping up along the left wall in the offensive zone. Scored against NJ like that and also provided the big assist on Voracek's OT winner.
Obviously he's been thrown under the bus around here but unless we're getting Ryan Suter, Matt Carle will be hard to replace unless we want to pay Wideman $5.5million. Which is the key in keeping him, it's logical UNLESS we're getting Suter.
I vote Yes to take him back. However, it isn't as simple as that. At 5+ million, probably not. At similar money as Coburn, yes.
Other teams value Carle. He is MUCH better than people give him credit for. A few turnovers here and there and he is the worst D-man in the league. It just isn't true. He just isn't 5+ million good. I'd sooner go 7+ million for 8 years with Suter.
Yes. Carle is easily the most underrated Flyer and is much better than people think. I would give him $5M a year. If you lose Carle you absolutely have to sign Suter because we'd be getting thin on puck movers. The ideal would be to re-sign Carle and sign Suter.
At 82 games, over 22 minutes/game, 40 points and playing with a revolving door of lackluster defensive partners, Matt has done well. Now, if fans can't get over the fact that he has, in their minds, a weak shot and isn't physical, well they're acting more like fans wanting a specific type of a defenseman rather than one who eats minutes and accumulates points, which is fine, to each their own. I wish he would sign with Colorado, but that won't happen because Kroenke only spends money on the Nuggets. Given Matt's nature, he probably would take a hometown discount to play in such a great hockey city, so I think he will sign with Philly at a $4.25 hit, which fairly values his services.
I'm not sure how to answer the question, other than that it depends on the amount of money given to him. I don't think he's as bad as a lot of people here think, and while he has his fair share of breakdowns, he also makes really good plays that might go unnoticed. For example, without him taking away Parise, we wouldn't have scored that goal in game 5 vs. the Devils. It's hard to say whether the good plays outweigh the bad ones, but I guess you have to take him as a whole and not just concentrate on one of the two extremes. I would like him back if he doesn't get more than $4 mio.
I've seen him hang out with an opposing forward in front of our goalie for the last time
"Whoa! That's Sidney Crosby! Man...he's one of the best hockey players in the world. It sure is neat to be playing with him. Look at that! He just effortlessly skates by right towards the goalie. And he scores! That was awesome. I'm glad I didn't try to stop him, that was just such a treat to watch. 10/10"
Down in the basement, I've got a Craftsman lathe. Show it to the children when they misbehave.
If you handle the puck you turn it over. That's just fact. I really, REALLY don't even like Carle very much but I feel the need to defend him.
Carle was 25th in the NHL in giveaways as a D-man.
Guys with more turnovers than him...some pretty good names in here.
Yes he can't shoot at all, and he's pretty soft, but he's just really not that bad. Carle is the perfect example of Confirmation Bias.
I'm not saying I agree with this article entirely, because I do NOT think he is Ryan Suter, but the there is some truth here. See how he compares, to Chara, Keith, Doughty, Kimmo, Weber, Suter, and Yandle.
