if the youngsters keep playing really well, Methot will probably be shopped a bit and I'm assuming will be had cheap.. he isn't flashy, but he plays defense well.

Cool trade him elsewhere. I like Greene. Martinez is relatively unproven

Maybe so.

A mid 2nd is fair, imo, for Greene. If we could sign Suter, LA would make that trade.

You honestly expect to get a guy you think can slot in as a #3-4 for a 5th round pick?

If that's not homerism...

LOL, it's called negotiating!!

I thought it was pretty funny when I saw 3 different posts saying "5th round pick?"

Come on man, gotta give to get.

Seriously, what blinkman said. Negotiation

And Methot is more a 3rd pairing guy in my mind for now. Tallinder has injury issues and produces next to no offense while being somewhat soft for a high price.

Then why the interest?

cause the Sens need D anyway. Cowen, Phillips and Gonchar are the only guys signed.

If everything goes right Tallinder and Methot could contribute on the 2nd pair. But there is a reason they were offered in this thread. They're expensive and definitely not a sure fire #3/4

If the price is right, I wouldn't mind getting Ballard.

For Murray not a lot. A 2nd rounder is fine by me, although we would prefer a roster player with speed in our bottom 6.

Martin in the right system is easily a top pairing guy. He can eat 24/25 mins a night and is sound defensively. The issue is that he needs a defensive system to excel. He had that last year and was amazing (I ate crow over how well he played as I initially hated the signing). This year with Malkin and Neal playing amazing, they played a more offensive system, and wanted Martin to join in the rush. That's not his initial inclination (which is to stay back and let the play come to him), and it conflicts with the Pen's system. Which means he's neither effective in the offense, nor is he that effective in the defense.

Put him in a really tight defensive system (Nashville, Phoniex, Caps, Rangers, Tampa, NJ, Dallas?, etc) and he'll do very very well. But unless the Pens change their system, Martin is going to be miscast and fans will hate him for how ineffective he'll be.

From the few games I watched of the Sens/Rangers series... I don't think he's what you're looking for. Perhaps someone more like Stuart, Jackman, Rozsival, Hannan, Allen (although some of these are more of a 2nd pairing shutdown type).

Hopefully that's what we can fetch for him.

With the way our D looks to be shaping up right now, you could definitely have Tallinder. What would you give back?

EDIT: how much more would it cost to nab Neil?
Tallinder has always been a solid defenseman, but I'm curious as to why NJD would be prepared to move him. Your blueline is still fairly weak isn't it?

Whatever fair value is for a 2nd round pick, I'd gladly give that for Greene.

I mean, if you think a Conference
Final-caliber defense is weak, then, sure, our D is weak.

Really though, our defensemen have blossomed--buying into the system, executing, and producing. If we add Tallinder back into the mix, we'd have to send down either Fayne or Larsson... Something that is completely unwarranted due to their stellar play in the postseason.

Which makes Tallinder, in a sense, basically an odd-man-out.

Devils would take a 2nd rounder.

No offense but you have very little clue about the worth of top 6 dmen. You aren't going to get an NHL starting defenseman for a 5th round pick.

Ok, so tell me, what are you willing to give a team in exchange for a true #3/4 dman.

Kyle Quincey could make a solid #4.
