*OFFICIAL* Peterborough Petes 2012-13 Season Thread

Petes season kicked off on a positive note this past weekend with a very good rookie camp and good showing from some of our 2012 draft picks: Cornel, Maguire, Stefano and Tierney.

Was also impressed with american free agent.. Greg Betzold.
http://www.thepeterboroug...leDisplay.aspx?e=3553983

And soon to be USHL recruit Alex Robinson..

Summer should be interesting.. Lots of promising kids.. But Reid has some work to do still!

Petes don't need Schoenmakers. Robinson is good but I still have Varga over him in the depth chart.

As do I, Dont think he will sign unless he gets guaruntee'd minutes. (USHL). And I would rather Ritchie or Boucher for the top line I just thought Schoenmakers balanced out the rumoured Sudbury trade a bit.

Makes sense but like you said even if they do acquire Schoenmakers I would still put Ritchie on the first line over him.

Where did you hear Robinson was headed to the USHL?

I can't see them converting Ritchie to RW to load up the first line, there would be absolutely no depth to the team if they did that.

Nosad, Mathers and Hietkamp are the only RWers on the team, and only one of those guys should see ice time above the 4th line.

Last season the Petes tried to use him in games, but he didn't want to give up his NCAA.

Sean LaFortune (TheScout) tweeted he would be one of the guys to watch for in the May 22nd USHL draft.

He's been added to Chris Heisenberg's list of potential Canadian's heading to the states to play college.

Obviously that doesn't guarantee he's heading to college, but he does appear to be a tough signing for the Petes.

Looks like the Petes are getting close to signing Betzold..

"looks like ill be wearing the same uniform colors next year.... #cantwait"

He played for Shattucks St.Marys last year for anyone who is unaware and there jerseys are maroon and white! ; )

All but been released in the media now....
Betzold-"pumped to be a Pete! next season starts in the gym this summer #petes"

All of this is via twitter by the way.

you have cuts made already before camp begins. What about Heitkamp? are you letting him loose?

Along with Robinson and the Tierney defensemen, I also liked Caruso and his poise with the puck. He's a smaller defenseman but at the listed weight of 186, he showed some grit and moved/shot the puck well. I also liked Racine, reminded me of a more physical version of Marchini.

Agree with Caruso he has a cannon of a slapshot.. But I have to disgaree with you in the Racine thing.. Didn't stand out too me. Was more impressed by Stefano.

You're right on with Stephano....he was always around the puck and seemed to be a threat every time he was on the ice.

Great news for the Petes and Betzold. Win-win situation for both partys in my opinion.

Not sure if Robinson going un drafted means much, tons of places he could still play.. I think he really likes the NCAA as an option.

Just curious why you would think Robinson is considering NCAA.

Last season Robinson was called upon to play games when the Petes were de-railed with numerous injuires but he turned it down because he wanted to keep his NCAA that's what the rumour was anyways and it makes the most sence, do you have any other information for us? If you know otherwise...

He must not have been offered a deal that was worth jeopardizing his eligibility. If the deal was right and he had any intention of playing in the OHL, last year was a great opportunity to negotiate a deal with a team in need. Don't know that the situation this year at training camp will be any different. May have to consider alternatives if this signing doesn't happen.

I too am curious if there is any confirmed interest from the NCAA in Robinson.

Its unfortunate cause he should be guaruntee'd a spot .. I'd rather Trojanovic or Murduff be gone/moved.

He was rated as a top 60 selection in his draft year, but let it be known to every OHL team that he has interested in the NCAA, and the NCAA was interested in him.
