2007 8-Game Series

4 - 2 Canada
3 - 0 Canada
6 - 2 Canada
4 - 2 Canada
8 - 1 Canada
4 - 1 Canada
4 - 4 Draw
6 - 1 Canada

And the Russians agreed to do this again?

In fairness, that Canadian team was very good and that Russian team was pretty bad. This time should be a lot closer.

Why not? There is always the risk of losing any time you agree to play, but this could give the Russians a useful gauge as to where youth hockey stands after two years of the MHL. If the Russians do better, that would be a positive to take away. I would not assume that the Russians would necessarily send their best team, because they might want to evaluate players on the bubble. The Canadians may also be offering financial incentives to draw Canadian TV audiences.

2013 First Overall Pick Nathan Mackinnon is going to absolutely put a show on, especially during the two games in Halifax Looks like he'll miss the Ivan Hlinka though.

Great job by HC to hold their summer camp in Russia. Speaks volumes about the resources they have as well.

Last two years, Russian juniors were better almost everywhere. Russian selects won 1 CHL Super Series and were really close in the second one. Team Russia defeated Canada twice in WJHC.

Should be fun. I highly doubt it will be remotely similar to the 2007 series, at least when it comes to blowouts. Depending on how beneficial this series is for the team selection, I wouldn't mind Hockey Canada doing this regularly. Sweden next year maybe.

After the last two WCs and SSS it's not a bad idea.

Most importantly Nemchinov will be nowhere near this team.

Now the fun part:
Kosov-Grigorenko-Yakupov
Shalunov-Prokhorkin-Kucherov
Shmelyov-Kadeikin-Yakimov
Buchnevich-Nikiforov-Nichushkin

There's very good competition for spots yet again, that first line could be insane. Second line as well..
Still a very very rough guess at this point. Some solid prospects there...

That Russian top line is darn tooting.

Will be interesting to watch, will any of these be on streams? I guess HC will be showing them?

Pretty sure will be covered in Russia, so it'll be on streams.

I like this now but I know I'm going to love it come August. As an Oilers fan these long off seasons just seem to get longer and longer.

Going to be really cool to get a chance to watch Yakupov play before camp provided the Oilers do the smart thing and draft him.

If Sportsnet doesn't pick it up, FAST will likely have it for free since they carry pretty much every Hockey Canada event.

Russia - Canada is always fun. I would have liked a World Cup or something with the older guys, but this will be good too.

Shmelyov -?? is that Sergei Shmelyov ?? or Shmelev ..... saw it as Shmelev on Russia 2013 WJC team thread (Russia section) and couldnt find this kid on eliteprospects....knew some russian guy just mispelled it

no Slepyshev??
Yakimov- in U18 thread someone was saying he cant skate
knowing that Yakupov, Grigo might be in NA next season coach probably wont take them and give spots to other guys
wheres Koko??

In response to the question as to why the Russians would get involved in such a series, given the results the last time. There could be a number of incentives, including the prospect of money from TV rights, etc. Probably not a big chance of that, but it has been a factor in past series.
