I read posts like that on the Bruins board and I think I saw the like on the Leafs board. Maybe the Habs, Leafs, and Bruins will all finish last so their fans can commiserate with each other.

Commiserate? I'm still cleansing myself from the "go bruins go!" chant I posted last night... out, damn'd spot, out!

I think the rollercoaster ride that this habs season has been is causing this reaction. The habs are playing their own little playoff right now, fighting for a spot. If they deliver the goods, now is the time. How could they do anything in playoff agains teams such as Ottawa and Carolina if they can't handle second tier teams when it counts during the regular season?

In the grand scheme of things, I still wish the habs make the playoff, only for the experience. We have many rookie players who would benefit from the experience, even if we get eliminated in the first round. Plus it's more money for the owner, wish is always good in this day and age.

the last time montreal missed the playoffs by 2 pts or less was 1999-2000.

the first 3 picks of the following draft were Hainsey, Hossa and Balej. not an ideal scenario

I cant remember the last time the habs got a top 5 pick outside of 2005 and that was because of a lottery.

It doesn't make much difference in the draft if you barely miss the playoffs or if you just squeak... you're likely gonna end up with a mid round pick anyways.... and that's been the story of the habs drafting wise... mostly mid round picks or late round picks since I can remember

So I dont even see your point about missing the playoffs... as ridiculous as it is.

One obvious reason we should want our team to make the place is : No big time UFA or small time for that matter will sign with a non-playoof team, unless the money offered was out of this world type of money, which won't come from us..

Also, playoffs give experience for our youngsters, money to the owner, fun to the fans and.....u just never know what can happen!

'84- Petr Svoboda 5th overall. Before that was 1980, but I won't bring up that name.

how did the habs end up getting #5 pick that year. I remember svoboda was a top 5 pick but I couldn't remember what year. Were the habs the 5th worst team that year?

they were 5 games under 500 that year but made it to the semi finals. I counted 9 teams with a worst record than the habs that year

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...l19271984.html

that pick must have been aquirred through a trade. When was the last time the habs got a top 5 pick without going through the trade route?
