If that is how Schenn plays in Toronto on a consistent basis, I'd want to get rid of him as fast as possible.

What games have you been watching. You people act like leaf fans. You get into a mindset of thinking a player is horrible that everything he does well goes unnoticed and every mistake he makes is magnified. He's been pretty decent. Very good at times. No where near his old self but he's gonna get there.

I think Schenn's been ok too, I've watched three of the games and Ryan Murray has looked far weaker than Schenn to me.

Murray had a few good plays today (he prevented a goal early in the first with a good stick check on a cross in front of the crease) but he just seems to be consistently out of position. He plops down in front of the net and sort of stays there, without really considering where everyone else is. It frees up the other team to move the puck around more. I haven't been impressed with him, and this is the level of people he'll be playing against in just over half a year.

Yeah, but at that point he'll have:

- a full summer of training under his belt to get bigger and stronger.

- a full training camp to learn and adapt how to play against tougher competition.

- a full schedule of exhibition games to refine himself further.

With all that being said, people need to realize that a lockout is looking more and more like a reality. That means that Murray will ultimately start the season in the WHL next year and maybe not leave.

I've confirmed prospect Ryan Murray will have a private visit with the #oilers in Edmonton. Nail Yakupov heads there tomorrow.

Cue Oilers fans freaking out.

Still think Yakupov is their guy.

We have to consider Murray. That being said, at the end of the day we will probably take yak.

On the Hotstove Lounge tonight they said that Edm might have to take Murray 1st overall, they might be afraid to trade down and have somebody else take him from under them...Clb might not be willing to trade up, so if they drop down to 3rd Clb could snag him...hmm

Quite honestly I am surprised by the lack of hype for the kid. In my eyes, after Yakupov, he is the BPA in the draft. The things he has done at his age is nothing short of incredible.

But he's not flashy, so that means he sucks!

Yeah, that's what I don't get. People think because he doesn't play as flashy as the other D so he doesn't have as high of an upside. I think he has the highest upside of all the D with maybe the exception of Rielly.

Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson is understandably nervous heading into the NHL entry draft later this month.

Howson wants Everett Silvertips defenceman Ryan Murray who was good enough to get minutes for Canada at the recent world hockey championship in Helsinki, Finland, at the age of 18 but the Blue Jackets pick second.
I wouldn't have been reading anything into it if Howson had no Edmonton ties, but he spent plenty of years there and would have obviously have some sort of relationship with some people in the EDM media, so you have to believe it could be accurate.

Just like the media was reporting Bob Hartley to be a lock for the head coaching job in Montreal?

Controversy sells papers and hits on web pages.

It's speculation nothing more, not one place in his article does he list a current Oiler employee as a source, just a guy who picked Marc Andre Pouliot over Zach Parise.

I wouldn't put much into Howson wanting Murray just yet, I think he likes Forsberg.

Just wanted to point something out about that article. It is written by James Matheson, who has a well known obsession with Murray. He was quoting Kevin Predergast in this article, the old Oilers head scout.

Secondly Hot stove are a bunch of idiots(especially Healey), who think they can look at our depth chart and determine what the Oilers need.

So really in the end, all of the speculation about the pick is either from biased writers, or eastern based hockey analysts.

All this Edmonton interest in Murray is posturing IMO...they are putting the squeeze on Columbus. It's a game.

There's no way the Jackets are picking Yakupov...the Oilers are trying to force Columbus to move up to the number one spot.

Normally I would agree with those who might suggest that Columbus simply take Forsberg, their marbles, and go home. But they need to come away from this draft with a player ready to play opening night.

When one of the two NHL ready players is Russian, well, that changes the game entirely.

I agree, but I wouldn't count out Howson looking to "build from the backend out" by drafting Murray and then running with an overabundance of defensemen (Johnson, Wisniewski, Tyutin, Nikitin, Methot, Moore, Savard, and Murray). Also he has ample chance to address goaltending either through FA or trade (or both).

So two teams are actually fighting over a prospect who isnt the BPA?

I call shenanigans.

This is nothing more than media contrived hype.

Yakupov was always going to go #1.

Columbus, Edmonton, whoever, doesnt matter.

Murray could make the team right away. One of the CBJ d-men is likely on the block now...likely Marc Methot.
