If you could steal one player off the Capitals roster, who would it be?

He was the only guy on the Caps roster that was a consistent threat. Caps problems were NOT that AO wasnt playing well..its that, besides AO, Backstrom and Chimera the rest of their roster was completely shut down.
Yep.

I guess they wouldn't want to add Iggy or Doan or something either, since because they haven't won anything they're all lazy pieces of garbage.

AO was a consistent threat on the ice, as was NB. Can't go wrong with either of them.

Backstrom AINEC.

Heartless for sure.

The amount of disrespect Ovechkin gets is astonishing.

Same lazy **** who has a 0.5 GPG against Henrik Lundqvist.

Any player? Ovechkin

Any player not named Ovechkin....

I'm going to have to say Semin..... A pure sniper added to this Rangers roster could make them lethal.

Backstrom. The reason I would not choose AO at this time is the way he plays changes the teams style to drastically. The amount of shots he takes and how often he needs the puck to be affective, the way we play now with the way our roster is I see a playmaker like Backstrom helping this offense tremendously, more so than an Ovechkin who is a great goal scorer (something we need), which we would need to change style to supplement him. Not saying I wouldn't take AO, who wouldn't want a 60 goal scorer. But I think Backstrom fits this team real good. But i'd love to have either (with contracts not weighing in).

A pure sniper is not necessarily what this team needs imo, we've seen Gabby (a pure sniper) be ineffective without the right line mates. This team needs playmakers, guys who can create with the puck more so than pure snipers. Which is why I would take Backstrom.

Surprised at the lack of Hendricks.

He's a Torts guy to the T.

Do we really need another Brian Boyle on the team? (I love the guy, but, really?)

I'd pick Bäckström, because he's the kind of player who makes those around him better. That, to me is his advantage over Ovie, who's a more dynamic indicidual player.

The Ottawa thread excluded their top stars, so in that vein, I'd say Chimera, based purely on this series. Carlson was great, too.

Hendricks is far more effective then Boyle. He's the kind of guy that gets it done this time of year. I also thought we're excluding their top guys, as we did with the Ottawa thread after the last round.

to me it's ovechkin, and its not even close. completely fills a need we have. Left Winger, can score goal, and plays the point with his lethal shot. aside from Ilya Kovalchuk you couldn't hand pick a better player to fit what this team needs.

There is probably a short list of Caps players that I actually gained a lot of respect for and wouldn't be completely disgusted with if I was a Caps fan.

Brouwer
Hendricks
Chimera
Holtby. One good thing that can come of this is is WSH has finally found themselves a player in net.
Carlzner

probably rounds that out.

Backstrom you have to expect more from; he really only dynamically took over one shift of one game.

MOJO? HELLO? Did he even do anything this entire series. Caps fans were hailing him as this great 2nd line center that would be the difference maker. He's a good young player but my god you'd be lucky to even hear his name once if you re-watched all 7 games.

I also thought Semin was this alleged "Ranger killer" who has turned around his game and is now a playoff warrior. Well, that was the vibe from all the Caps fans who invaded our board after we beat OTT.

if cap hit is not in the mix then Ovechkin is a NO BRAINER. Top 5 player in the NHL. If not, Backstrom.

As much as I dislike Ovechkin....it would be clearly him. Alex Ovechkin, then I would turn around and trade him for a better package (ie. say Bobby Ryan, Visnosky. and a 1st)

If i had to pick one guy to keep though.....it'd be Backstrom no doubt. There are certain players that will perform not only the regular season, but in the Playoffs where it counts. Nikki Backstrom showed me that he's that type of player (ala Brad Richards or Danny Briere). I'd take him since AO is basically AROD. You won't win BECAUSE of him....it'd be despite of him.

I've been trying to post that if we could give Del Zotto, Semin's shot, it'd be great.

It just sounds dirty any way you type it.

Backstrom for strength at center.

Maybe Ovechkin if it was guarenteed that he bought into torts system.

Bäckström. He's just so skilled with the puck, so slick in small spaces and defensively responsible.

Outside of the big guys, Chimera. His speed would make us even better.

edit: And yes, I do consider the player's cap hit a part of the equation. Hence Ovechkin is out of the question.

that's like saying if we could give Callahan's Grit and Heart to Gabby, Gaborik would score 60 goals then
