Boogard: One year later

It was a year ago today we lost a good man. RIP to Derek boogaard and may his family stay strong on this hard day for them. Its great to see our rangers do so well and I just hope that we all remember why they have the #94 sticker on their helmets and their hard work has made boogie proud.

Was a sad day. I remember it was a Friday and I got home from work and the gym and saw that and just felt like somebody punched me right in the face.

Even though it was preseason, happy I got to see him score a goal against the Sens. I'll always remember that.

We miss you Boogey.

It would be nice if MSG did a pre-game tribute to him before Monday's game. RIP

Well I said I'll use this Boogaard for one year. It's now time for a new one.

RIP. Hopefully he's rooting for us.

Terrible situation.

I wonder if they're going to find similarities between Boogey and Seau.

So sad.

I remember I was at prom and went out into the hallway with my friends for a minute and saw it on twitter. Put a damper on things to say the least.

Also, I wanted to share this clip. I was at that game and you can't help but smile watching it.

The players need to remember this and use this for their run, and hopefully they did something today to commemorate him.

Boogie is no doubt, helping out!

Was never a fan of his as a player but he wore the Rangers sweater proudly and he did a service to this team. I'll always remember that Caps goal.

I hope he's never forgotten and that his death can continue to serve as a call to increase head trauma research in all sports especially football and hockey.

RIP big man.

Would the team ask league to get his name on cup if you guys win it?

no disrespect but there's no reason why his name should go on the cup if they were to win it this year. If this was last year then they probably would.

RIP big guy its still a very sad situation. I am still extremely angry that MSG did very little in terms of a tribute or a commemoration for him it was a big FU to his family. However Im not gonna get into politics, he was a guy that wore the sweater proudly, loved this team, wanted us the fans to adore him (thats why he chose 94 as his number) and was a guy that gave it his all, rip big guy.

Thanks for posting this. I actually thought of this goal a few days ago, and it made me smile and laugh.

Didn't realize the anniversary was coming up at the time, I think I thought of Rupp's two goals at the Winter Classic and that made me think of Boogey's monster slapper on the breakaway. So good. RIP.

Me too. After watching charlie460's video from Minnesota again (I've seen it many times and it's still very emotional), I can't believe The Rangers only did something during a TV timeout ("apparently", since I've never seen it). Shame they couldn't do something to honor the man appropriately. They wear the #94 in his honor, but couldn't give us fans some sort of video memorial. Very messed up.

That goal ALWAYS makes me smile. It's the "Boogie Breakaway" and I use it all the time in NHL12

Glad to bring it up. The loss of boogie really struck close to home for me and I made sure to remember. I changed my jersey number to 94 last year in tribute and always wear my boogie memorial shirt. Just glad he was a proud ranger and gave us some great memories, my his soul rest and his memory inspire
