We have 4 guys right now who any team in the league would want. And the fact that we have them all is the foundation ( along with #30 ) of why we are where we are.
Keeping them all, if financially viable, is a must.
No kidding. Tortorella barely wants to play 5 d-men. I don't think getting rid of one of his best players/minute eaters would benefit the team in the least.
Of course we can just pick up one of those cheap top 4 d-men that are readily available, maybe we can trade Bickle, Mitchell and future considerations.
He was amazing last night. He's so calm with the puck in the corners and he's got that great reach. He was picking pockets all night long it was so awesome to watch. I think he is our best defensemen for getting the puck out of the zone cleanly. I can't wait to see him play next year with the full training camp but I'm definitely enjoying his game right now 100%.
There is a reason he was considered one of the best defensemen in the game before the concussion issues....thankfully marc is reminding everyone with his playoff performance

This x1000. His patience in the defensive zone is astounding. I remember a time last night where he held the puck in our zone, battled a few guys and actually skated the puck up to their blue line before passing it.
Him and Hank have been my two MVP thus far in the playoffs. That tell you how good he is playing. Hes not flashy, but if you really watch the Rangers you see how valuable he is. Not only that seeing other team D and than watching him it that much more pleasing that we have him. Hes just a rock.

Absolutely, Staal was beginning to take over games last season when he was healthy, something I haven't seen McDonagh (although I'm sure it will come) or Girardi do.

What makes him special is he's 6'4" but he's naturally lanky. No defenseman in the NHL has the combination of size, speed and pure athleticism of Staal. He'll either out-muscle you our out-smart you.
Obviously Chara and Pronger are/were more physically dominant because they are behemoths, but I don't think either of them has as many defensive weapons as Staal. If he scored he'd get more recognition.
He's finally dominating in the corners like he used to. He still looks a little bit slow laterally, but that's just a lack of conditioning which is to be expected. Great stick work and is laying the body regularly. Glad to see him returning to form. Now maybe people will realize he's not so easily replaceable.

Yep. Like JPP on the Giants, who's not only a physical beast but is more athletic than anybody too; not many with his mass can bend and torque like him. Staal, while not on that same level, has such ridiculous lower body strength, combined with his natural body structure, he's a very interesting physical specimen.
