If you could steal one player off the Capitals roster, who would it be?

If I could pick 1 player, it would definitely Backstrom. He is a dynamite player who brings a lot to our game. Ovechkin is a one-trick pony and overrated.

It's a tough call between Bacsktrom and Carlson. Both fit a huge need on this team and both would look great in blue.

id deal Gabby, Dubi and AA for Ovechkin.

itd never happen though.

AO fits this team a lot more than Gabby does, because of the physical nature of his game. Love gabby, but AO is a Hall of fame player, i doubt Gabby makes it there, barring several consistent 40-50 goal seasons from here on out.

lol @ anyone who doesn't say Ovechkin in a heartbeat.

For the sake of the thread, it should be anyone but Ovechkin, but the OP didn't say that.

Guy won Game 2 and set the tone in Game 4 and 6 with early goals. So basically he was the biggest reason behind their 3 wins.

He showed up, Semin didn't and that surprised me.. I was more worried about Semin coming into this series because he always ****ing kills us.

Ovechkin. Say what you want about him but the guy is an offensive threat AND he hits. Would fit with the Rangers much better than Rick Nash...

Ovechkin is one of the most overrated players in NHL history. All the physical ability and talent in the world, but he's just not very smart. He tries to do one of the same two things virtually every time he has the puck, which makes him much easier to neutralize than he should be. Incredibly inefficient player who wastes tons of offensive zone opportunities for every goal he actually scores. Sure, he could score 50-60 goals, but he'll do so taking 100 more shots than any other player in the league.

Ovechkin does fill a need more than Backstrom, but you should strive to never feature dumb, inefficient players. If not Backstrom, then Carlson, Alzner, Chimera, or Laich.
multi-season 50+ goal scorers are a lot harder to come by. when one is available. you take them. ovi is obviously better than backstrom--especially if you put him on a line with gaborik and richards. we threw 3 guys at him every time he touched the puck and he still scored plenty of goals.

i mean i guess ovi would be in the box 24/7 if he played for new york since the refs have a vendetta, but meh..

Yet no Cup winning team since 2000-2001 has had a 50 goal scorer on their team...

On this team Backstrom is the correct answer. Would also accept Carlson and Ovie as possible answers

A super physical left wing to play on the top line. Is this one even a discussion? Gotta go with Ovechkin.

Guy walks in a bar and orders an ovechkin. Bartender never heard of it and asks the guy what is that? Guy responds...

...A white russian without a cup

gaborik plays more defense than ovi and scored more goals this year. did you hear people gushing over ovechkin because he had a couple of blocked shots in the series? gaborik blocks shots every games, i feel like we rangers fans don't realize that. my friends who aren't rangers fans have all told me how much they love gaborik now that he's blocking shots and playing defense. sure, ovi is 10 times more physical, but gaborik is MUCH less selfish. i'll take gaborik.

carlson is the obvious answer. young, extremely talented, former teammate of stepan and kreider on a gold medal winner, nothing bad to say about the kid.

Ovie-Richards-Gabby... that line would be the best in the NHL hands down.
Why would you assume cap hit wouldn't matter? Richards - Backstrom as a 1-2 would be great... Or Carlson with MDZ.

Chimera would be nice, but he doesn't massively make us better like the other 2 would.

not that shocking. irrelevant though. scoring 50 goals doesn't make your team any worse.

This might have been true before the playoffs, but he's been able to put up some great numbers and clutch goals in the greatly reduced ice time during the series against us.
