hey look, they tried a new coach AND a defensive first system for the first time, and they beat the defending cup champs, and took the #1 seed to 7 games... clearly they need to try something different IMMEDIATELY

Past performance does not guarantee future success.

At the end of the year, they went 7-7 in the playoffs, and didn't make it past the second round. Pretty sure the year they beat the Pens the Penguins were defending champs as well. They've done this (and better) before with an offensive system that doesn't alienate their best players.

The Caps WERE the most entertaining team a couple years ago. Explosive scoring, Fun to watch. They are now as boring as....well...as boring as many of the other boring teams in the league.

Yes, they DID exceed many people's expectations by taking the #1 & #2 seeded teams to 7 games, BUT it is true that the offensive juggernaut of season's past wasn't so far away from playoff success that it justified management reworking the entire team's strategy.

All they have now is a much less exciting team that's getting just as far in the post season as before.

Damn Halak. When he shut them down that series I was worried Caps management would overreact, and they did. From what I gather, the whole "defense first" approach came directly from Ted Leonsis.

They tried to play defense last year and this is their 3rd coach with Ovechkin. I'm a Caps fan and I'm frustrated that they can't get it done. So spare me the little jibes as if I'm someone on the outside looking in and hoping they fail. I'm disappointed and frustrated right now. I was hoping Hunter's approach would have worked. He is in a unique situation that enables him to do what he did with the ice time of guys like Ovy, Backtrom and Semin. But I wasn't totally sold it was the right way to go.

Honestly, the Caps' biggest problem is Dennis Wideman. Replace him with a powerplay quarterback with at least some semblance of defensive responsibility/awareness and there's no reason Washington doesn't win that series. He's hot garbage

The Caps best defensive defenseman between 2008-2010 was Tom Poti, their best second line center was a 35 year old Sergei Fedorov. Their issues weren't really system based so much as personnel based, and GMGM was risk averse to the Nth degree, holding onto top prospects and steering clear of big names like Pronger while wasting his mid level assets on the likes of a too-old Jason Arnott, Dennis Wideman and Joe Corvo.

Smith's gonna have to be real, real good for the Coyotes to win this series.

As Pang said, "world-class shot."

Perfectly placed. I don't know if Smith could see it, but damn.

The Kings are big and they use that size to great effect.

I love their game. Constant forecheck, they finish every hit and it leads them to have all kinds of time in the opponent's zone.

Richards goes at the knees of OEL. Good to see Mike's in mid-series form and already attempting to take out the opponents' top players.

You can take the player off the Flyers...

Lol, that was hilarious. LA's walking all over them, though. The Coyotes are really lucky to be tied.

I'm still not convinced that Phoenix is that good. I'm still not sure how the hell they are in the WCF
