Will Jonas Holos make a return?

Do you guys remember Jonas Holos? If not, let me give you a heads up:

-Drafted in round 6, 170th overall in 2008.
-Played 39 games for us in the 10-11 season before he left for the Swedish Elite League last season due to lack of play time / trust.

His stats during this years WC for Norway:
-3G, 3A in 6 games so far with a +7 rating.
-Averaging a sky-high 27:20 minutes a game.

During the 10-11 season he was one of our best defensive players, but still, Sacco wouldn't give him the ice time that he deserved, and many saw him as the most unfairly treated player in the league.

There is absolutely no doubt that he is good enough for our team, as it seems to me that he has gotten much better offensively as well.

What do you guys think? Will we see Holos in our lineup next season?

we still have rights for him?

I doubt he comes back, there's too many good defensemen coming up .,

I'd like to give him another shot.

But no, I don't think we'll see him in our line-up anymore.

Yes, he has one more left in his contract.

He's more than good enough, so why not. Let him play in the second D-pair.

Nah. He dosent fit in the NHL. HolÝs is great on big ice, but not on small. The avs sucked in 2010-2011, because of the undersized defense (Liles, Hunwick, HolÝs etc) and goalies (Budaj). Im not saying that HolÝs is a bad player. In fact he is great, but even a great player dosent fit in the NHL. Just like Ovi dosent play well for the russian national team. We all know that Ovi is a great player in the NHL, because of the small ice. He can take advantedge of his size...

I can only see two norwegian players making it in the NHL and those two are Holtet and Tollefsen. They are big, good skaters, tackles hard and they can take a fight. HolÝs, Thoresen, SkrÝder etc play a european style of hockey. Let em play in europe

Doesnt fit into our system at this point.

He was a bottom pairing guy in a year were we might have iced the worse Defense in the league. On this years team he would have been in a very similar situation to Hunwick, Healthy scratch all game or back in Europe.

With guys like Barrie, Elliott, Gaunce, Siemens all in the system who are more valuable and will be better then him, he just doesnt have a spot on this team.

Maybe with a team like EDM or Calgary he could fit in, but theres no spot for him here.

And what do you base your theories on?
Have you seen him play this season? Heck, did you see him play during the 10-11 season?

No, I havent seen him play. Im an Avs fan but I didnt watch one game last season.

He was a bottom pairing Dman/Healthy scrath last year, and our team was the worst Defensivly, that really says alot about him.

EJ, Wilson, Obyrne, Obrien, Hejda, Gaunce, Barrie, Elliott, are all better then him, and higher on the depth chart then him and Siemens will be better after this year. Thats 9 guys that are will be at the NHL level before him. Even Hunwick had a better year this year then him last year.

So Yes, I did see him play last year and no, he wont play in the NHL for the Avs. Like someone already said, his game is best fit for Europe, and thats were he'll play.

HolÝs is a good player but better suited to the larger ice in Europe. He was good when he first played in the NHL, but struggled in the AHL and that's when he asked out of his NA obligation. At this point he's behind EJ, ROB and Barrie/Elliott on the depth chart, and the Avs are more interested in developing Barrie and Elliott than HolÝs because they have much higher upside.

He could do well with another NHL team, but I think playing in Sweden is his best bet.

Holos will never return here, the way he was treated by this club. But he will most certainly return to the NHL.

Holos doesn't belong in the NHL.

Holos was just as impressive before coming to the Avs. Don't mistake his international play for NHL ability. That said, he may have the skills to translate his game, but I doubt it'll be with the Avs. And for the record, I hope he takes hold somewhere.

Too soft for the NHL.

Holos should be sending Olver "I'm Sorry" cards every month for that suicide pass that nearly got Olver decapitated.

He seemed to struggle a little bit with getting hit too much on the smaller ice and then didn't seem as confident after his concussion as he did before.

I do think he could be a serviceable third pairing guy in the NHL but it won't be with Avs. That ship has left the fjord.

If he wants to go to training camp next year and try-out for a spot that would be great especially if he does earn a spot but if he doesn't want to try out then I wish him the best in Europe.

During his stay here, I didn't say to myself "we've got ourselves an NHL defender in Holos". And it doesn't help him that there is going to be some serious competition in training camp for those bottom pairing D spots. He'd really need to have an excellent training camp in order to make this team next season.

He seems like one of those guys who can't make the transition from europe to the very physical NHL.

Won't be back. I liked him but as bad as the Avs treated him, he felt this sense of entitlement to a roster spot that really didn't sit too well with a lot of people.

Probably rides out his contract and gets an invite to camp somewhere next year.

Let's put it this way. If you guys start taking care of good players you might end up in the playoffs one year..

The Avs missed the playoffs because they let Holos go? Hilarious.

If only the Avs still had Tom Preissing and Tyler Arnason... am I right??!

(Responding to the quote hek is responding to) Holos, not even in a parallel universe, would not make or break the Avalanche's chance at the post-season. And to think the Avalanche do not take care of their good players is quite out of touch. Yes, some guys are in the dog house more so than others, but it seems 9 times out of 10 the dog house was "deserved" and "justified" (look at Galiardi and Stewart especially).

On a more serious note (and back on topic), I honestly cannot see him returning to the Avalanche at all in his career. Like others said, he just does not appear suited to play on North American ice. I wish him the best of luck wherever his hockey career and life takes him.

I know, right? Just look at what we did to Arnason.

Edit: Damn you, foppagirl! OK, replace Arnason with Tjšrnqvist.

What? How was Galiardi being in the doghouse justified?
