So when do they announce Sergei Fedorov as the new coach? Might as well continue the coddling.
George McPhee....The Teflon GM. 15 years of failure and counting....
6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
The prospect of Hunter coming back for next season was already an depressing thing to consider just two games into the capitals off season so I feel better that he isn't. Definitely adds another storyline to this off season.
Love him as a player but pretty obvious he had a short term coaching life based on the coaching decisions he was making.
Now would be the appropriate time for Uncle Teddy to seriously consider whether GMGM is the right guy to lead this franchise moving forward. GMGM has said that he has been on Hunter to coach the Caps for years, and he finally gets Hunter, then Hunter decides the NHL is not for him. Add to it GMGM should of fired BB's before the start of this past season, and it seems like the front office needs to be cleaned out and the Caps move forward with a new GM who has a fresh vision for the team.
Well I'm kind of disappointed oddly enough. I was hoping perhaps this year was a lesson to be learned and that Hunter would continue and loosen the reigns offensively in the future. Admittedly I didn't like a lot of his decisions but at the same time I think he instilled something in some of the players that perhaps they didn't know they had. Or something like that. LOL
Interesting situation nonetheless and I wouldn't rule out Jim Johnson. He seems intelligent enough and certainly more of a people person which would benefit the players and media. Not saying a coach should be best friends but some respect would be nice. Hunter truly seemed to disrespect the veterans.
Well anyway............good luck Dale and I wish you the best in the future.
