Sacrificing is the right word.

Not sure how Hunter expected to score goals by playing defense. I love Hunter as a player, but his coaching style frustrated me to no ends.

I heard that Todd McLellan might be available from the Sharks. Would he be someone that the Caps would look at? or because he has not playoff success, he is automatically off the list?
I agree 150% about Hunter Hockey. I doubt SJS gives up McLellan right now. If they wanted to can him, they'd have done it already. Why wait?

Wouldn't mind MacTavish.

Don't expect the Caps to hire a defense-all-the-time coach.

Well, apparently the fans thought a guy who won multiple AHL championships was bad.

Not to be overlooked: this should spell the end for Evason.

SJS ownership specifically voiced faith in the GM. They specifically didn't voice faith in their coach. The prevailing thinking is that he's headed out, although MTL has been speculated to be interested in him IINM.

I respond to posts with zero substance in the form of an intellectual response with the same.

I also find this hugely ironic coming from the guy who believes that an organization that hasn't missed the playoffs for 5 years is somehow a 'mess'.

If you didn't see Semin turn in some excellent two-way play the year Fedorov came in and the year after, you either weren't watching or choose to ignore it. The guy earned himself PK time, FFS.

Not a Caps fan...

but wanted to get your reactions.
I am confused.

I thought you all would be devastated losing Hunter.
The Caps were a mess with a lot of infighting.
I have never seen a Caps team work so hard as they did; most of you disliked how the 2010 club was all about scoring and no grinding.

I thought DH changed all this...but yet most of you aren't upset he is leaving. Am I missing something?

At the start of the season making it to game 7 round 2 would have been a disappointment but considering where the Caps were early Spring I thought this was something to build upon.

It looks now like DH was nothing but a hired gun...a deadline player who is walking and you have to start from scratch.

Don't get why the coach left either since I thought he did a good job.

Mike Keenan or Barry Melrose for the entertainment value.

Melrose is not a serious suggestion but what about Keenan?

Who was coaching when they looked like crap?

Sure hope you are right!

We need to open it up a bit at least. No interest in snooze fest "lull the other team to sleep" hockey.

Plenty of fans overreacted to the loss to Montreal. It's no surprise that people were upset. But the polar opposite is obviously not the answer, either.

Why do you think the team was in that position in early spring? Hunter's style works well for a 7 seed who's outgunned, but we were playing like a 7 seed all season long under him. We have the horses for a much different fate.

He left because he preferred his life in London to his life here. Pretty simple really. He has a good thing going up there.

You know...I don't mind Gelrose actually.

His last stint in Tampa was not a good one but he really got alot out of the Kings back in the 90s.

I'm in the minority tho as I kinda like him.

RE: Iron Mike

He has too much of an ego and seems to have lost his edge really. This is not a GMGM type of hire to me at least. Keenan would want a great deal of say in personell decisions.

Remember this is the guy that stormed into Gretzky's hotel room berating him on a drunken spree when he was with the blues. It could work..or it could get REAL ugly.

Great goaltending in the postseason papered over a LOT of cracks in the Hunter Capitals.

And I'd venture to guess that those that didn't like Dale as coach outnumbered those that were fans. Most probably fell into the 'wait and see how he does' group.

He did an OK job with the Thrashers( 1st half of the season anyway) before they moved to Winnipeg...he`s been a lifelong assistant coach.

Don't see him as the Caps coach.

I need a DH translator. What does that even mean? Is he getting into scouting, or management? Is that why he's helping with the draft?
