The Predatorial isn't a "breaking news" site, and even if it was, who would hold on to it until Saturday? It was more of an event announcement. You guys were the ones that got your hopes up.

Who would you rather trust? Vanderbilt or some random Russian hospital?

I wouldn't want either place touching my knees or anything else.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Vanderbilt is a teaching hospital, and so most of the surgery done there would be done by residents, i.e. surgeons in training... they are supervised by very smart surgeons, but typically they are not the ones with their hands on the patients.

If you need a complex surgery that doesn't get done a lot(like a transplant or a complicated cancer surgery), then your best bet is a University hospital type setting.. but if you want a fairly routine surgery(like a knee repair), you actually want to have it done by a surgeon in private practice who does a buttload of them with his or her own hands and has to get consistent good results to keep up the referrals...

call me crazy, but I think the hospital wouldn't risk any tarnish to their reputation and have the rookie surgeons operating on pro athletes.

you missed the point... a professor at a teaching hospital very rarely does a procedure himself... and you don't want your surgery done by a guy with a great reputation but who hasn't actually held the instruments in his own hands for a while because his job is to let the residents do it (on everyone but the pro athlete)

case in point... the prof who taught me to do tonsillectomies has supervised thousands of them in their career, but it may have been 5 years since they last did one themselves, whereas I did 5 of them last week...
