This happens every year. The Rangers have plenty of room for the AHL guys to dress and practice. They can use the Knicks room in Greenburgh and at the Garden. They will skate after the Rangers skate. Four of the nine players brought up don't have SPCs for this season. If you look at the Stephane Matteau game,Barry Richter is on the bench with Ed Olcyzk and Nick Kypreos hugging Mike Keenan on the bench. Richter was brought up as a taxi squad guy.

Just makes sense--you give JAM and Hrivik a chance to play--they do well and whether or not they can actually play for you--this is a reward to hang out (on the periphery maybe) with the big club for their playoff run and another reason for them to sign with you afterwards. From what I understand there are a number of teams interested in Hrivik now that weren't before and I expect JAM has created some interest as well.

meh, if the team wants to keep the player, sign him to an NHL contract. the Rangers signed Jeff Hamilton to and AHL contract, and he played with the Wolfpack when he was a RFA with the Islanders.

He will take whoever does not play well. And if Dubi doesent play well, he prob be out. But knowing him he will make sure hes an impact player. Anyone can really be out for him besides a few forwards.

Rangers recall Talbot, Wellman, McIlrath, Miller, Newbury and Erixon from #CTWhale. These guys will skate separately, though.
This was just tweeted by Andrew Gross

Open to Scott and not Zuc 0.o ?!?!?!?!?

You're aware people are skating faster and harder in the playoffs right?

I'd like to see them sign Hrivik and stick him in as a black ace. Maybe even helps the PP.

If they don't I still want to see Hrivik signed!!!

I saw Erixon and McIlrath are up which makes total sense since they are the top two D prospects. I actually think Erixon should play over Bickel in the playoffs.

Miller does not surprise me. I think he plays in CT to start and we may see him pull a Hagelin. Played in the OHL last yr but also came from College like so many current NYR kids.

Newbury and Wellman are vets and Talbot looks like he is now the 3rd string G

So whats the below? Hrvik and JAM practicing? They arernt even signed to deals? Shownig them they are part of the future maybe?

3:39PM: Doyle notes that the players being called up are Dylan McIlrath, Cam Talbot, Tim Erixon, Kris Newbury, Marek Hrivik, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Casey Wellman, JT Miller, Chad Kolarik

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but they're all on NHL contracts but for Hrivik and JAM, right? That's a great sign that they'll both get contracts (or at least offers) from the Rangers.

(Woohoo!! They score!)

Probably just to see them on the ice and see what level they're at.

Awards:
It's just additional bodies for practice and a chance to look at the guys. They won't be playing (except in the event of a couple injuries).

Can someone please explain the contract implications? I doubt this counts as a year off of McLIrath's or Miller's ELC but are they still on ATOs?

McIlrath and Miller probably aren't eligible to play despite being under contract. They would have to be on the playoff roster, no? And neither contract was counting towards the Rangers 50 limit as far as I know. I would guess they're still on ATOs since Yogan was released from his.

Wellman, Erixon, Talbot, and Newbury were likely always eligible for recall to play.

I wonder why Yogan didn't make the trip.

He was out injured for quite a while at the end of the year. That may have had something to do with it.

EDIT: Also, in looking at the names that were recalled, they're all either under contract for this year or AHL players we're probably trying to woo to sign for next year. Yogan is under contract, but it kicks in July 1.

Says alot about Miller, was he not one of last cuts in camp? I think this kid has a shot to get called up and stick next yr. Alla Hagelin

Newbury is a UFA but I am sure they will offer him a deal. Plus hate to say it but out of all the call ups Torts may put Newbury in if injuries build up.

Wellman should get a look next yr in camp.

LOVE the thought of Erixon and McIlrath added to this already young D. Think Erixon is full time next yr and Taker is the first D call up if an injury occurs

not sure but I would agree no chance this is a year off their entry level. I imagine there deals kick in next yr, I know Yogans does so Miller and McIlrath are likely the same.

Good to keep Miller up. Let him work in the training facilities, get a head start. For a pick a lot of us were not very emotional or thrilled about, he seems to be solid.
