Second, Russia is on a roll at the WC. They don't need two huge egos added to the mix right now. I might add OV but I would NEVER add Semin.

Both Canada and Sweden has better teams Than Russia. Ok russia got Ovi but Sweden got Backstrom which today are a better player Than Ovi.

Won't help. They'll just get worse with these two players around.

This would have been a great addition if we brought them in during regulation round; bringing them in the quarterfinal is folly. The whole point of regulation round is to get the team working together and make changes where they are needed because errors at that stage are not fatal. It gives a chance for talented but emotional players like Ovechkin to **** up and take their penalty time and gives the coach the chance to impress on them the importance of discipline in the quarters. Not to mention as I understand they plan to arrive on Wednesday and quarters are Thursday morning, since the evening is reserved for the Sweden Quartefinal.

On another note Chezks do not want to be playing around with their group finish placing by losing to Germany, as they have not locked a top 4 finish yet. Sure Latvia beating Sweden is unlikely but hardly impossible and if they take Denmark as well, it could be Norway and Latvia in the quarters.

Semin - good, Ovechkin - useless. they will take spots away from the 4th liners probably and weaken our PK

I hope they'll play within the team structure and not just try to do everything themselves.

They lost a game 7. They were very close to the ECF. I know it's all the rage to find goats on a team once they've been eliminated but I don't think passion was the missing ingredient in the Caps' run this year.

I was thinking about this the other day. Once the B's were eliminated, Chara and Krejci took the first flights out to get into the WHC, and I thought, "Hey what's this...everyone said the team was tired, what are these guys doing?" Upon reflection, I think that a lot of players welcome the chance to just lace 'em up again and keep playing as a way of dealing with the disappointment and frustration of being eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. No time to sit and mope and stew, just get ready for the next game.

So who comes out of the lineup? Two of Zherdev/Shirokov/Kuznetsov I would imagine.

I think Shirokov and Zherdev. Kuznetsov is playing better than Zherdev, and it's also improtant for him to develop in the tournament. Zherdev can join a figure skating competition if he wants though..

QF's are the deadline.

In other news Pierre McGuire was on radio and he expressed a concern for the Capitals about "Semin & Ovi and even Backstrom for bolting so quickly to the Worlds" and thought it might not be received so well in Washington... What an idiot, of course he didn't seem to mind when Erat, Josi, Smith and Hornquist all "bolted" to the WC's as well

McGuire put his foot in it there--Players often jump on the first plane when they get the invite

New rules for this year. There is no deadlines, but all in all you can exchange fewer players.

He was responding to one of your posts, Halpysback?

If you (all) want to delude yourselves regarding OV/Semins play against NY, feel free. The freefall in OV's career will continue. Semin needs to find work in the KHL where 2-way hockey is not a priority.

And who do you have in Washington after Semin and OV? Backstom and then who? Chimera is going to win you the cup? It's a team full of plugs besides the top 3 guys.

That's a fair question and I don't have an answer.

I wanted Washington to beat NY and I saw nothing from OV in game 7. On the 2nd NY goal, he sat on his butt (literally) while the Rangers put the game out of reach. I saw even less than nothing from Semin.

If I was running the Caps, I would have traded Semin for a strong leader (Nash/Brown?) long ago and made HIM the Captain of the Capitals. This would allow OV to concentrate on scoring.

There is a reason OV has never won anything in his career - other than a 2nd rate World Championship. If things don't change soon, he never will.

**

Edit: He did win a WJR's (or 2?). However, against a strong Canadian team in North Dakota, he was (again) non existent.

LOL do you watch washington at all....semin ..good, ovechkin useless.? LOL
Semin disapears for half the season his production has been slipping, and to think he is at the end of a contract year he would actually show up these playoffs and do something in the second round...Nope!

the players that lead the caps in the second round for offense, were Ovechkin and Chimera...who led the caps in hits....Ovechkin...Who on the caps hit the least...semin..lets call a spade a spade here
