History also says B's get it next year. So the 3 teams who do not get it this year can automatically rule out next year as well.

I thought it was Philly, doesn't the team that loses the Winter Classic Win the Cup the year after?

Also I have still not been able to get an answer to this but, has there ever been a player to Win an Ncaa Championship and Pro Championship in the Same year? Also if not in Hockey in any Sport?

They are fighting against a long tradition of Bruins win cup, lose first round, win cup next year. (2 occurrences )

NO OTHER TEAM has gone 54 years between Cups. If you want to include expansion franchises like the Kings/Blues/etc. that's still a 40-year drought or so. Our own franchise here in Ottawa has "only" been waiting for 20 or so years...

If it's a Kings/Rangers Final, we'll either see an 8 seed beat a 1, 2, 3, then 1 seed, or a 1 seed beat an 8, 7, 6, then 8 seed. I doubt either of those has happened before.

What would be even stranger would be if that happened with the Kings Sweeping Phoenix, and The rangers going to another game 7.

The team that had the hardest road to the Cup final's will have had an easier time doing it then the team with the easiest road possible. At least by seeds that is, I am not saying at all that the Caps, Senators and Devils are bad teams

If the Rangers win, doesn't that mean an automatic lockout for the league to recuperate from the shock?

I guess that's historic, but I'd rather not see it happen again.

It's not that it isn't "special". It's that they've been expected to win for most of the season. Them not playing all that well in the post season just adds to the dull factor..

You forgot to mention if the Kings win. We will have the first Slovenian hockey player name on the Cup and his name is A. Kopitar.

... so what is the point of the redwings ever winning the cup again then? they've already won it 11 times and as recently as 2008.

What's the point? To win the Stanley Cup. Just because there is no extra history with it doesn't mean it's not worth it.

Haha well that's something!! Don't forget the Rangers are the gutsiest team ever as well, lol. Man Rangers fans are a sorry bunch, even with the chance to win the Cup.

Discuss.

Think you could have better described a Ranger win with one of the following descriptions:

Luckiest team ever to win.
What the NHL wanted.
Killing the game
Boring

Feel free to add to the list

This. There wouldn't be any extra history with it, but it's still special to the team's fans.

If the Rangers win it means that's 3 original six teams to win the cup in a row .. which further means that Toronto is next

right ..

Nah the Rangers already got a cup that will last a lifetime. Plus another cup win would give MSG more programs to air then 94 ECF game 7 3x a week.

Rangers might be the home-growniest team to win it all.

Here you go:

In the history of the NHL, a team that has played the maximum amount of games in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs is 0-38 in Round 3

Where did you find that stat? If that's true, that's shocking. The Rangers would break a record just by winning a game this series...
