The Good: Kreider with an amazing snipe on the PP to give us insurance, showing more skill every day. Henrik making amazing saves and outplaying Brodeur. The Rangers coming out and having a picture-perfect 3rd period after playing like they were tired and defeated in the 2nd period.
The Bad: Callahan was pretty sloppy, Richards too. Way too much passing and not enough shooting. Needs to generate better chances and capitalize on odd-man rushes. Girardi wasn't stellar, but redeemed himself.
The Redden: Devils forecheck is much better than the Senators and the Capitals. Rangers need to figure out a way to break out against a team that is very aggressive on the forecheck (the Devils overload the strong side of the puck -- we were outplayed on the boards). Power play still looks powerless, except for Kreider.
That period may have been one of the best of the playoffs, they really showed something there.
Gotta win Wednesday night and hold home ice going into New Jersey on Saturday!
Most impressive is that they didn't shell. They kept attacking and look, we piled in 2 more and secured the win! There is no doubt in my mind that if they turtled we would have lost or would be watching OT right now.
1. Danny G - I know it was not his best all around game, but this #1 from me is for playing above and beyond.
2. Ryan McDonagh - solidly doing fantstic work, with little fanfare.
3. Henrik - coming up big on some tough chances and just being Mr. Dependable.
Honourable Mention to Chris Kreider for making the most of his minutes and showing other Rangers that when you are participating in a 2 on 1 and you have the puck, you don't put the brakes on to curl back and look at your options. Your option is RIGHT there at the end of your stick. Be selfish, shoot right away.
Hey, it works!!
lol @ Devils fans blaming the ice, the boards, our "six goalie system", basically anything else but their own team.
And yeah, they outplayed us for 40 minutes. In the third they were to tired from skating on the MSG ice
Devils just aren't used to playing a real team. Like I've said, they played the worst team to make the playoffs in like 10 years and a Philly team that didn't play defense. The Rangers are a complete team and the Devils aren't used to it.
