With Tinordi, Beaulieu, and Ellis about a year away, I'd look more towards addressing the D via stopgaps. Kaberle can be dealt, not sure for what kind of return, but he's definitely movable. And with Souray, that would leave us with:

Markov-Subban
Souray-Gorges
Emelin-Diaz

With Beaulieu, Tinordi, and Ellis waiting in the wings...
We need a big stay at home d-man, not a big shot who can't stay healthy.

What do you think about Bryan Allen? Should be a good fit.

I'd like to see Shane O'Brien with the Habs also.

The best would be to have McDonagh and O'Byrne but this ship has sailed...

I'm not sure O'brien is good enough for what we need. If he plays 20 minutes a night we wouldn't be a playoff team.

Allen would be a good fit. Jackman and salvador would fit.

He's not a stay at home defensman.

Yes I know. Allen is. Altough I don't know much about him, I just added O'Brien because he might help in the toughness department at the blue line and I don't think he would cost much. He's got good stats but I don't know why he's changing team so often.

O'Brien is one of the biggest fake tough guys out there, he acts tough when there's a linesman between him and the opposing player and he likes to push people around after the whistle. His hockey IQ is abysmal, he doesn't know his limits on the ice and he's a train wreck waiting to happen on the ice.

Oh yeah rushing 3 prospects for no particular reason sounds like a great idea Actually I'm quite surprised there's not more prospects in that line-up...

Of course it's all hypothetical. UFA'S that I like might not want to sign for Montreal.

Buyout Gomez. He will still count for 3.3 on the cap but you don't want him in Hamilton leading the kids.

Trade Weber in the offseason for picks.

Re-Sign Moen for 2 Millions/Year. Upgraded from 1.5.

Re-Sign Staubitz for 0.6. He was solid this year for Montreal. He's the perfect tough 4th liner model. He can fight, he can throw a hit. He's seems like a good team player.

Re-Sign Darche for 0.7. I think as a 4th line winger, he can do the job. Cannot hurt that he's a local guy too.

Re-Sign R.White for 0.7. Can fight, can hit. He's built like a tank and he goes in traffic. Can score the big goal. He's worth it on the 4th line.

Re-Sign C.Price. Of course I think that he would accept a 6 millions/year contract for 5 years

Re-Sign Subban for 3.5/y for 4 to 5 years approx.

Re-Sign Yemelin and Diaz. Emelin for 1.250. Diaz for 0.950.

UFAS
:

Signs P-A Parenteau for 3 to 3.5 millions a year. Good 2th line winger. Great passer and he'll give you approx 20 goals a year and he's french so that cannot hurt again.

Signs Francis Bouillon to play with Kaberle as the 6th defencement. He's not that tall but he's got big heart and he's built like a tank and is not afraid of physical play. 2 years at 1.3

I would draft Alex Galchenyuk with the 3rd overall pick but I would give him at least another year in juniors since he had that big injury this season.

Unless amazing pre season camp. I would let Louis Leblanc plays a leader role in Hamilton to help him develop smoother.

So here's what it looks like:

Cole - Desharnais - Pacioretty
Gionta - Plekanec - Parenteau
Bourque - Eller - Moen
Darche - White - Staubitz

Markov - Emelin
Subban - Gorges
Kaberle - Bouillon
Diaz

Kaberle and Diaz alterning for 6th D spot

Price
Budaj

Patrick Roy or Alain Vigneault (if he's fired) as a coach

With that line-up at the price I said... I would have approx 3 millions of cap space and yes I counted Gomez

I think that could be a realistic and competitive line-up.

What do you guys think? What would be your Habs line-up for 2012-2013?

I would send Gomez to the minors instead and try to sign Semin.

Try to get Radulov from Nsh by giving them back their 2nd rd pick and draft Grigs .If Grigs isn't availible than sign Gal.
Trade Pleks to the Ducks for their 6th rd pick and draft the BPA with that pick.Forsberg'Dumba. 2nd rd pick draft P.K's brother if he's around which he should be.
Promote Eller to take Pleks place.Dump one of Kab and Bourque for anything we can get.-Cap space needed.
Run with

Cole - Desharnais - Pacioretty
Semin -Grigs/Gal- Radulov
Gionta- Eller - Moen
Darche - White - Staubitz
Bourque

Markov - Emelin
Subban - Gorges
Tinordi - Diaz
..Weber, Beaulieu ?

Price
Budaj

Roy as coach and Robinson as assistant coach
I understand that Grigs/ Gal are rookies but playing with those two talanted wingers should help take the pressure of one of them..
Tinordi can be brought in slowly

Our d looks atrocious,we lack high end talent up front ( center obviously) and we suck. Oh, and did i forgot to mention that we suck?
In fact my first attempt at building a line-up was including Bryan Allen instead of Bouillon but some people told me it would not fit against the cap... I think Bouillon could have made a good defensive player for next season but at that moment I thought the cap was suppose to be around 64$ millions when some have said it would be more of 67$ millions. At that ceiling, Montreal would be able to sign Allen and don't forget that we lost Markov, Gionta for most of the season which next season might not be the case. I might be reaching for Markov but who knows!?

I'd love us to trade for Crosby, Benn, Hartnell, Lucic and Giroux. Weber and Keith.

Pacioretty - Giroux - Hartnell
Benn - Crosby - Cole
Lucic - Plekanec - Gionta
Staubitz - Eller - Roger Rabbit

Weber - Subban
Gorges - Keith
Markov - Emelin

That would be great.

I'm not a Semin fan and I think the same for Grigorenko. I would draft Galchenyuk with the first round pick and leave Semin alone.

I've edited my post and I would take Bryan Allen back, first I thought the cap would be around 64 millions but if it's really around 69 - 70 millions. Allen is back in my line-up

I think Suter would be too much for the Habs... I think a more realistic price like Allen or Stuart from Detroit would be better for Montreal. If you do have the chance to sign Parise, you should do it. I don't think it will happen tho

Thats fine . Your entitled to your opinion.I would still try to get Semin. He's not as lazy as many claim.
Grigs or Gal with the 1st rd pick. If Roy is our coach i can see him pushing hard for Grigs.
Semin,Grigs/Gal,Radulov would be a great line to go along with
Cole - Desharnais - Pacioretty.

Would love to see them sign Jackman for 3 years and 14 million dollars. Depth on defence is never a bad thing, and no matter what happens with Gomez the cap space will be there for that.

Trade Kaberle,Campoli and Weber for a 2nd,3rd and a 4th round pick in the 2013 draft. Then sign Matt Carkner and Andy Sutton if they are both UFA's giving some backing for the rookies when they get called up.Next trade off Bourque,Darche,Palushaj and Gionta for draft picks in 2013 draft,Gomez can go on long term injury.Sign Paul Gaustad,Zenon Konopka and Brian McGratten to replace the forwards and bring in rookies to get them experience without having all the scrums etc.Take this season for breaking in all the prospects that they can even if it means missing the playoffs again. All the draft picks that the Habs gain by above trades along with the ones they already have should get some talented players for the future. How does that sound and Gomez only has one year remaining on his contract. The Habs would be able to sign some UFA's and bring in more prospects for 2013-2014 season, building through shrewd signings and drafting.

Roger Rabbit is a defensive liability. Do. Not. Want.

Otherwise I like this, good mix of skill and size.

Only one centre over 5'11"? This team is crap, first round exit at best.

We need another top six forward on a big one or two year deal, but these are my more subtle moves.

Subtract Mathieu Darche 750K
Subtract Chris Campoli 1.75 Millions
Total: 2.5 Millions

Raise Travis Moen 500K to 2 Million
Sign Kostopolous 900K
Sign Scott Hannan 1 Million
Total: 2.4 Millions

Bottom six needs energy and spark so bring back a player who never should have left. You have Moen, White, Kostopoulos, Staubitz, Blunden, Geoffrion.. Dumont and Schultz battling for spots too... that is some energy and depth right there for your bottom 4-5 forwards instead of players like Darche who are too kind, tofu type players.

Hannan or someone like him is the type of vet we need opposed to a Campoli. Dependable and stay-at-home, international experience, plays with grit. A true playoff guy on our bottom pairing like Mara, Sopel, Gill, etc but a better player than those three.

If we can't sign or trade for a big top six winger I would do this. All of these wingers can play with an edge. I can't see us signing Paranteau. Why not give Leblanc the shot instead. I love the look of this second line. You also have a talented player liek Palushaj who just lacks confidence. It would be a shame if he's cast off and puts up 35 points somewhere, then you all go complain like you do about losing guys like D'Agostini.

Cole - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Leblanc
Moen - Eller - Bourque
Geoffrion - White - Kostopoulos

If Kostopoulos is too old for you guys we could take a flyer on another flame.. David Moss... a big body but he has been injury prone, would come cheap.

My seven defenceman would be Markov, Subban, Gorges, Emelin, Hannan, Kaberle, and Diaz or Weber.

The powerplay if we sign Semin :

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
Markov-Semin

The point of this unit is to get the puck to Semin&Pacioretty so they can shoot a million times.

Positioning :

--------------- Semin *

-Markov * Desharnais * Cole * (THE NET)

--------------- Pacioretty *

Semin is a right handed shooter so he can easily snap his mighty one timers from Markov or Desharnais. Plays on the left board.

Desharnais controls the center. As always he's pass first but can shoot if he has an opening on the net.

Pacioretty just needs to do what he does best.

Cole crashes the net and annoys the defense&goalie, creating space for everyone else and screening in the process.

All of this leaves Markov with a lot of options. He can either circulate the puck to the two shooters or surprise everyone with a slapper trough traffic.
