I think in this situation it's a win-win for both teams. We get our big center that we have been looking for that the 2012 does not look to offer and we get a defensemen that has as much talent as PK
I'd rather just keep the 1st and Subban. Whether the Habs select Galchenyuk, Grigs, Forsberg or a D, they could be better than Huberdeau - as much as I like him - and Subban is better, both offensively and defensively, than Kulikov.

I'd trade our first this year straight up for Kane. He was a fourth overall in 2009, hes already a 30 goal scorer and hes a big body who plays a hard game. Will defend himself. He can help the team immediately, doesnt have lingering question marks like a guy like Grigorenko (compete level) or Galchenyuk (lost year of development).

Those players may or may not end up being better than Kane, whom is my opinion will be a 30 goal, 65-70 pt guy for a long time.

Pacioretty-DD-Cole
Kane-Plekanec-Gionta.

Not bad at all.

Winnipeg won't, though, so that's that.

This was my thought as well, the 3rd pick this season could very well be outstanding.I am always appalled at how some posters here undervalue our assets continually, instead they should try to evaluate our players as a neutral party.

Nothing ventured and nothing lost,if they want the trade then fair value for both.

He would cost too much, plus his cap hit is high. Wouldn't be an upgrade on DD or Plekanec right now.

Here's a discussion on the trade rumour board on this very topic if you want:

Patches is just what the doctor perscribed for Stastny (Stewart that actually gives a damn and that's willing to go to the net), put them together in the NHL and Patches scores 40 goals and Stastny is a PPG center once again.

It would be easier to get Stewart to play with Plekanec than to get Stastny. Besides, why get Stastny when we have Plekanec, basically the same player, but Pleks gives a damn when it comes to playing in MTL.

I hope not, I don't want that lazy floater anywhere near the Habs.

I think Stastny would play well in montreal. If I had to pay the premium it's for Duchene though and he isn't available.

I just don't think he fits well on a Hitchcock team, for whatever reason. He played well in Colorado under Sacco and in St Louis under Payne.

Alexander Semin is likely to test the free agent market rather than re-sign with the Washington Capitals.
According to his agent, Semin would prefer to sign with an NHL squad over a KHL team. His agent also said that Semin "wants to be a full-time player." Semin averaged 16:47 minutes of playing time last season. He has the potential to be a point-per-game player, but he's produced well below that mark over the last two years. His market value has probably taken a hit as a result. However, given that there's not a lot of top end talent available, it's not hard to see a desperate squad paying him based on what they'd like him to be rather than what he's actually done over the past couple of seasons

Would anyone want to trade for Mathieu Perreault?

What could the habs give?

We need another small skilled center for...?

I guess you saw Renaud Lavoie's blog. How in the heck is Perreault a ''perfect fit'' for the Habs, Renaud?

Did Mathieu Perreault even play in the playoffs? I didn't notice him once. He always seems to score against us though.

He was traded from Colorado because he fell out of favour with their coaches and their management group, he was terrible in Colorado before he got traded, he floated there and he'll float where ever he ends up next. It was easy for him to put up numbers when Stastny did all his dirty work for him.

Wachted him on hockey 360 "hocking his wares". I didn't quite get it and I see I'm not the only one. Add that we have Gabriel Dumont who I consider a better prospect for this team in the same caliber range.

Pleks + Kristo for Columbus 2012 2nd overall

2012 3rd overall + Nash 2012 2nd to Edm for 2012 1st overall

Pick Gally and Yakupov to start the rebuild

Trade or bury Gomez, Bourque, Kaberle

Get a big winger like Doan to play with Gally/Yak

Third line of Moen, Eller, McClement

Fourth line of Staubitz, Bournival, White

Trade Gionta for possible 2nd line big winger

Go after Suter or settle for a big dman like Shane Obrien but get Tinordi and Beaulieu into the lineup at some point as they are the future.

Why on Earth would you need to bury Gomez, Bourque and Kaberle when your roster is not in danger of being anywhere near the salary cap.

I understand you are aiming for the 2013 first overall pick, which is a flawed strategy in itself as even finishing last gives you less than 50% chance of getting it, but if you ruin existing promising prospects by rushing them to the nhl when they're not ready then what's really the point?

My comment was based on the trade values.

Stastny = costs alot
Stewart = cost much less than Stastny

So, easier to get Stewart than Stastny. Weather he fits or not is up to management, but at the right price (say a 3rd in 2013) he may be worth it.

Stastny would play well in MTL. But why pay a massive Premium to get him when we have Pleks. Pleks' production is similar to Stastny's as well as his two-way play....at less of a cap hit.

If Semin were willing to sign in MTL for around 5M, I'd say do it. He'd give us a legit top 6 winger.
