Rangers wouldn't move McD for either kesler or elder. Guaranteed. Sedins in the other hand.... Not happening, but yea.

Maybe Stepan, Girardi or McDonagh, a 1st, and Boyle would do Canucks would add Malhotra
Assume this is Stepan or Girardi.
McD off the table.

If you can add conditional draft picks which kick in only if Kesler does not revert to form from prior to last season, then you can have Stepan + or Girardi +, if we agree on the +.

Why would we do that? If Gillis trades Kesler it's because he's not sure he can return to form. Buyer beware, you assume the risk.

In the real world though Kesler will not be traded. He will be back to his old self next season and all this trade talk on HF will be done. If you want Kes you'd need to blow the Canucks away, otherwise no deal. I'd say Stepan and Staal for Kesler, any less than that and there's no way we consider it. We need impact players back, or theres no point. We have a ton of depth.

I agree in real world he's not traded.
But also, Stepan + Girardi = substantially more than Kesler.
Maybe not Kesler + Edler, so NYR would have to add there if we could agree.

But if Stepan + Girardi then would have to Kesler +.

Rangers nor Nucks gut themselves of core players like this. Of everyone on Vancouver not named Sedin, Edler is probably the least movable.

I fail to see how a 27 y/o Kesler and his 49pts has greater value then a 21 y/o Stepan and his 51pts.

IMO, Rangers don't even do Step/Kesler straight up. Step's got intangibles and we've got plenty of players who bring what Kelser brings. IMO, Dubinsky fits very much the same role Kesler does.

Edler vs Girardi, I'd give Edler the edge, his skating and offense are comparable to someone like McD, Staal is every bit as valuable as McD. Down let a down season due to recovering from a concussion dissuade you from the idea that a healthy Mark Staal is a top5 defensive blueliner in the league, if not the #1 defensive defenseman.

Thomas & Fasth although solid prospects are relative unknowns when it comes to NHL success. They may both be valued no more or less then Schroeder. Adding them is unnecessary in the OP. Further although the Rangers 1st will be in the last 4 of the 1st round, it too is too much to add to ensure it's a fair deal for Vancouver.
