Big Joe to Leafs

Is there a remote chance that SJ would trade Thornton to Leafs? Many Toronto fans want to keep our team young but i think a true veteran leader is required to set the youngsters intact. Having said that what would Sharks be looking in return if the trade was even to be looked at. Thanks in advance..

Not a leafs fan but I consider that more than fair. Maybe even a little too much.

This is why I think it is highly unlikely the trade happens. That is likely the kind of package it would take and that is how most leaf fans feel about it.

I doubt that does it. SJ would have to have a reason to want to move him for him to consider this trade. Otherwise I don't see it blowing his socks off enough to really even consider it.

Would SJ consider Schenn, Colborne, Franson 1st rd 2013 pick? or does this not really help you guys?

I think it's pretty fair. I don't know if leafs should do it though. It only makes sense if JT is the 'final piece' but leafs have goaltending issues too. If say leafs acquire JT and Luongo, instant contenders IMO. Would I suggest it? Probably not. Build from within. Still, imagine JT and Kessel together. Hard to pass up.

Pretty much and I understand both point of views obviously.

I think 5th OA, Schenn / Kulemin, and a 2nd / "B" prospect is probably closer, but, yeah, that looks about right.

Not even remotely close. Neither Schenn nor Franson would have a spot on this team, your 1st next year will probably be between 10 and 20, and Colborne isn't a can't-miss prospect.

Really doesn't help us. We are looking for top-6 speedy scoring wingers and thats about it. We don't need any real defensive help, but if we got any it would likely need to be left side (preferably left handed) puck movers.

Totally irrelevant to trade value. We don't need to trade Joe, he doesn't want to be traded, and likely won't be. If we were to trade him it would be as part of a mini-rebuild, and again, no reason to do that for scraps. If we trade Joe, there will be a bidding war.

SJ isn't rebuilding. And the 2013 pick? If you're trading for JT, the 2012 pick would have to be included.

Think something like this: And even then I don't see what incentive there is for SJ to do this. They're NOT rebuilding and this doesn't help them win now.

2012 1st
Schenn
Kadri
Colborne
+

2012 1st, Kulemin, and Gunnarsson is probably what I'd require from SJ, and I highly, highly doubt Toronto would do that, even though it would improve their team. Maybe if they sign Justin Schultz, Gunnarsson becomes expendable?

No desire for Schenn. Leafs can keep him. Don't even need Gunnarson. It needs to be top 6 potential forwards and 1st or 2nd round picks. Kulimen, Kadri, Colberne, 1st in 2013/2nd in 2012. Something out of that set. Maybe diff forward prospects.

Thornton + Luongo = Leafs to playoffs.

Cap space? Komisarek to the Marlies.

Thornton and Luongo makes them much more than just a playoff team.

not just the playoffs they'd be contenders IMO

They'd have the big #1 center in Joe, the dynamic scoring winger in Kessel and the legit #1 goalie in Luongo

Only significant asset i would be willing to part with is Luke Schenn. I'd add to him but nothing significant. Joe is reaching the end and its just far to short term. Dont get me wrong, fantastic player however the leafs team/cupboards are not stocked enough to afford overpaying for a 34 year old. If we trade for joe it will likely leave us with many other holes. The leafs are not close enough to contending to be able to capitalize on the small window joe thorton has to win a cup/carry a team to a cup. Hes a heft stop gap and only a team on the brink of contention can afford to pay the premium. Sharks fans are most likely not interested in Schenn and so be it.
