The Flyers were barely better than the Penguins.

The Rangers are doing to the Devils what the Devils did to the Flyers.

Are these teams that far apart or is it coaching coming through at the right times?
How do you suppose?

On the contrary, it was pretty clear the Devils were the better team overall last night if you take away goaltending.

They thoroughly dominated the Rangers in the first and second periods but couldn't score because of Lundqvist.

Brodeur meanwhile lets in a soft goal in the third to give the Rangers the lead.

The Devils were dominated last night. 4-5 games max this series will go. The Flyers were dominated the whole Devils series, even game 1.

I was hoping for the more intelligent answers like the whole division is rather equal skills wise, but matchups and coaching play a huge part in these series.
Pointing out that fortunes can change over the course of a best-of-seven series = crap.

Yeah man, the Rangers, Devils, Flyers and Penguins all play an exactly identical game all the time and have the exact same roster as each other. So matchups don't even matter!

Rangers didn't look that good and Devils dominated a good part of that game. But I guess you're the type that can only judge performances by numbers.

Not a fan of either team, but I thought New Jersey controlled most of the game. I was suprised the Rangers won.

In what world are the Rangers >>>>>>>> over the Devils?

It's been one game and the season series has been even.

Wow, the game was 0-0 for most of the game and then the Rangers capitalized on a few chances... Devils were the far better team in the first two periods, and remember, the Devils lost their first games in both the first and second round. In no way is it a foregone conclusion that the Rangers are better than the Devils.

My God.

Amazing. Only one game into the series and you can already tell exactly how things are going to work out

So from reading this thread what I'm getting is that the Atlantic division is like a glorified game of rock paper scissors. Flyer beats Penguin, Devil beats Flyer, Ranger beats Devil, and Penguin beats Ranger.

The Devils and Isles play everyone tough.
excellent analogy. so the Flyers are scissors, the Penguins are paper, and the Rangers are rock? it does kinda make perfect sense in a weird way.

Jersey lost game one against Philly too, look how that turned out.
The Devils are in no way out of this series, it's one game. I really think they'll win this series.

It's very simple. We score first. They eventually open up. Game over. Rangers cannot play firewagon hockey with the devils and why would they want to??? Easier said then done. Very very tough nut to crack. Disciplined as well.

The Pens or the Flyers wouldn't have won anything playing defense like that no matter what the match ups.

The Rangers dmen just chip the puck out of the zone foregoing all offensive breakouts preventing the Flyers' forwards from checking them.
Well said.

Wait what? Did you watch the game or just looked at the score?

The Devils were even in the 1st, dominated NYR like Philly in the 2nd & then got 2 flukey goals scored on them when they decided to mail it in the 3rd.

Game could have easily went to OT, and a few lucky bounces the other way would make it 2-1 or 3-1 Devils.

The Rangera got lucky much in the same way they got lucky with the Caps, who should have won the last round in 6 tbh.

You had it right until the 3rd Period. The Rangers ABSOLUTELY DOMINATED the Devils. NJ had what....a whole 3 shots on goal? Girardi's goal is now "flukey"? Please.....you are reaching. Reaching and comming up empty.

Yup....the Rangers got Lucky with the Caps, just like the got lucky with Ottawa, just like they got lucky with 51 Wins (with 47, that COUNT THEM FORTY SEVEN real wins...to the Devils 36, that's 47-36 mind you) and 109 points. Yup.....looks like Luck will carry them past this round too. LOL.....laughable
