Words cannot even describe how terrible this proposal is for the Penguins.

(Yes, yes, Carter doesn't compare to Malkin blah blah can't hold jockstrap blah blah outrage blah blah blah. Player ability is irrelevant to the point. It's "big move" marketing we're talking about here, and we've already had misfires enough. Hell, half the folks might stay away 'cause "he's another Russian forward", as ludicrous as that seems.)
If ANY of that is true, particularly the Russian part, then Columbus has the worst market in hockey. Malkin has consistently been a top 3 player in the world for most of his career. He is coming off an MVP season. Oh and he's only 25.

Nash

Staal
Michalek

Doesn't make the Pens better defensively but I'm just spit balling it since the other proposals have been horrible.

Personally, I'm not entirely convinced Staal can be a #1C... and I think Pittsburgh wants better value coming back for him anyways.

That's considerably better for the Pens, but no way Columbus does that deal. They HAVE to get crazy over payment for Nash and that's not it.

I know Nash is a franchise player & Staal isn't but both Staal & Michalek would make them better on defense. You also have to figure recently Nash just had 9 more points in 20 more games last season.

Just an idea I was throwing out there.

I feel like adding Rick Nash's enormous contract is probably not a good idea for the Penguins. And as someone else mentioned, Columbus appears to want a bigger package for Nash. It also seems awful unlikely that Staal signs in Columbus long-term, and there's a good chance Michalek vetoes that trade destination too.

how about:

To Pittsburgh: No one from Columbus

To Columbus: No one from Pittsburgh

If I'm Ray Shero, nothing on Columbus' roster is worth trading for.

If Malkin couldn't get people in seats then they need to just pack up and leave.

Pittsburgh gets a star winger for Crosby, which also lets Staal move up to the number 2 center role. They also get an upgrade on defense, with Johnson.

Columbus gets the star center they so desperately need along with some good young pieces in Despres and Tangradi and a late round 1st to compensate them with the loss of 2nd overall
and what do the Penguins do when/if Crosby goes down again, Nash isn't picking up the slack and nor is Staal, if anyone of the those three(Malkin Crosby and Staal) gets traded it's Staal....

Staal can fetch a roster player 1st and prospect IMO... but if your looking at the Kessel trade as an example, Staal would fetch 5 1st and 3 top prospect, because Staal at the moment is decades beyond where Kessel was at the time of that trade.

so to sum all that up, No from both sides, big trades just dont happen anymore, Nash will get traded, but only for a solid top 6, a 1st and a top tier prospect(Oilers?)

Hell no. Again, I don't think Staal is a #1C, and Prospal's made a long-term commitment to the Jackets.

And why would this be an upgrade for Pittsburgh, again?

Columbus gets Malkin, basically. They give up the #2 overall+ Nash + JJ? Yeah, right.

Lol don't get your panties twisted over it. I'm not trying to insult Columbus, but if having Malkin, arguably the best player in the world, can't get fans into the building then they are wasting their time trying to have a team there.

I'm not the one saying they won't show up for Malkin...

You're not trying, but you are succeeding. The theory wouldn't be "We get to see Malkin", but rather "He'll figure out a way to screw it up. Everyone here always does."

Unless there are tangible results on the ice on a regular basis, folks aren't coming back with any regularity. You might see a small bump, but that's all.

That just makes it sound even worse.

I hope you guys go well, just sounds a bit sad if the reigning Art Ross winner wouldn't be able to get the fans in.

I kind of am. If you can take a struggling franchise, which has been one of the worst (from a performance standpoint) in the league for a long period of time (yes, I'm a Leafs fan, insert jokes here) and add one of, if not THE BEST player in the league to your team, I don't see the downside.

Columbus has drafted in the top-10 every year but one since 2005. I don't really buy into "gutting" a team which has finished at the bottom of the league. It's like Toronto, we stink, if you can acquire a legitimate top-tier player, a star, etc... you do it.

Malkin isn't a top-tier player, a star. He's a franchise center, a superstar+. He'll make the team better. He'll excite fans.

Oh, wait, is the bigger picture that he's Russian? Not joking, this just popped into my head. If that's the case, I still think it shouldn't matter, because I believe Malkin's actions and words have proved that he is never going to ... fall into that stereotype?
