can - svk was first game in WCH and it ended 3:2 and to be honest it was very close game...then you lost to USA...same USA which svk has beaten...and yes 50/50 cos now its new game and everything can happen
While that's true, if you look at their scoring against the class of opponents they'll meet in the QFs it doesn't look as good.
7 goals in 3 games against Sweden, Russia and Czech Republic.
It's not terrible, but they'll have to play very tight defence and have their goalie come up big.
Of course I hope that part of the lower scoring against those teams is that the competition was only getting started. Now that they've warmed up I'm sure they'll net a good 5-8 against Russia
We scored 3 goals vs Russia last game, but the refs disallowed Skrøders 2nd goal. We also played with our 2nd goalie, Lars Volden. The 4th goal scored by Russia was soft So hopefully we will have a better goalie this time and hopefully the refs wont go against us again
Without Ovechkin and Semin, the Russians have had the best record in the tournament thus far. Norway has definitely surprised in this tournament, but I would expect Russia to win this one.
I think USA advances over Finland, the Swedes over the Czechs and Canada over the Slovaks.

With ovie and semin, the russians might probably ruin their team chemistry and their best record in the tournament thus far.
Excellent that we got the USA against us - now we see what's the real difference in strength between these two teams. If it's another knockout, then the thing should be clear: with present team and coaching, we simply are not a match for the US. If that's the case, one can ask what has changed as even weaker teams from Finland have quite easily matched similar US teams. I don't think Jalonen will make big tactical changes, we'll play puck control, and if it's again destroyed by aggressive forechecking, then I would suggest that it's not a tactic against the North Americans. This will be really interesting to watch!

of course anything can happen in 1 game, but 50/50 is a bit unrealistic...
I think the odds are something like this:
CAN-SVK 80/20
RUS-NOR 90/10
FIN-USA 45/55
SWE-CZE 70/30
Go CZE I have a gut feeling we're gonna make it next round.

Those odds are pretty good though I would change FIN-USA to 30/70. "Our" match is a bit of a questionmark and hard to set odds on.If Lundqvist was on the team then I would hold Sweden as the gold favorite. The question now will be if the players can be sensational enough to make up for the softies that Fasth will let in. I see a close hardfought match on thursday.I also consulted my gut but I'm none the wiser.

That would be unbelievably silly. It will look nothing like their last game, and this one can go either way. I am fully expecting Finland to win, Lehtonen is out and they should be able to learn from the stupid mistakes.

I dont expect Finland to lose by 5 goals but it's hard to disregard a match that took place just a few days ago. I wouldn't say I fully expect the US to win this one but they are a clear favorite in my book. We will know soon enough
Home attendance doesn't give Finns the advantage that it could have if the ticket prices would have been in "this world" --> the real and loud fans are watching this game in homes and bars while the crowd in arena are mostly company/sponsor paid people who just sit there mouths closed and talks about the food/drinks and maybe some business. Lame.
I don't see coach Jalonen making any special soup for the Lions so USA skates through from this pair.

That's my hunch too. We will surely skate and forecheck much harder now and I'm quite sure that this time the goalkeeping will be excellent (not that Lehtonen was that awful or the cause of our humiliation, but he did not play on his usual high level). It will be a tight game. Anyway, if we lose, I will hope that the USA would go all the way - they play much more modern and speedy big ice hockey than the Canadians, it would be lovely to see this team succeed if Finland won't.
Russia-Norway : What´s Ovechkins track-record in games when he has arrived in the middle of the tournament ? I think Norway will make this a really really difficult game for the Russians but I don´t think it´s enough for an upset. 3-2 Russians
Canada-Slovakia : Cheering for the underdogs but it doesn´t stop Canada from advancing with an easy victory. 4-1
USA-Finland : No way Finland loses twice to that team. Finland will go through with a comfortable 1-3 win or penalty shots
Sweden-Czech : All pressure on the home team. If Sweden doesn´t have the lead in the beginning of the 3rd period the pressure will be too much and the Swedes don´t need to travel to Helsinki. 4-1 Sweden or 1-2 Czech
