Fans who watch all of the games of a particular team can usually tell when a guy is on the cusp of being really great. Sometimes they've had a combination of horrible luck and inconsistency and other times they just have a fixable thing wrong in their game that's holding them back. This is why it's useful to listen to what posters have to say when they get excited about a particular player rather than simply dismissing it as blatant homerism. Breakouts like Girardi, Giroux, OEL etc.. didn't come out of nowhere.

Unless of course, that posters location is Toronto.
Girardi has been solid since day one. He had one rocky season, but otherwise he's always been solid. He's 28 years old and is hitting his prime, that's all.
That one rocky season caused 75-85% of the Rangers board to wanted him shipped out asap.
Same thing happened with Del Zotto when his play wasn't up to par and he was sent down to the minors.
It's really disgusting to see that many of those people are cheering him and DZ on now are the once who were the loudest when wanting them to be gone off this team.

that's kinda how it goes with all teams though, not just Rangers fans.
Heck, if some Rangers fans where GM's, Ryan Callahan would have been outta here a couple years ago too, apparently he was a 3rd line grinder who wouldn't evern hit 20 goals.

Luckily it isn't the fans that run the team
Dan Girardi is a warrior, that's who he is.
You are absolutely right, it still rubs me the wrong way.
Yup! Me too. More so when it's younger players (like with Cally at the time, and of course Del Zotto), who are still growing into the team and league.
It's kind of Dubinsky this year. He seems to have more credit with the fans though but you can tell there is many ready to give up on him just because he isn't producing.

With all the physicality- the hitting, the shot blocking, the guy has still managed to play in all but two games over the course of his six year career. That's pretty astounding.
lol wtf is he doing? I assume that's from the Winter Classic
He was announcing the line-ups and when he named himself, that's what he did.

You know how bi-polar this fan base is. This team has a large fan base that are bridge jumpers. One day everything is great, next day with a loss, its OMG why didnt we trade X player for Y player.
Its funny, because plenty of NYR fans said Girardi was a product of Marc Staal. My my, how the tables have turned on that statement.

dubi is getting to an age where he shouldnt still be developing. dubi had one good year (last year) the others have all been average similar to this. dubi is simply not a player worth the 4 million he is making. hell he doesnt even know what kind of player he really is
I will be honest, after he watched Carcillo pummel Gaborik I wanted him gone. I was not happy that he did nothing in that spot and voice my opinion of that.
He redeemed himself in my eyes by defending a teammate the following season, but I still had a major problem with the mistake he made (and admitted he made a mistake) in the Gabby/Carcillo situation.
Since that season of redemption, he has been as good as Staal and has been a MAJOR contributing factor in McDonagh's growth as a defenceman.
He's been playing like that 15 year grizzled vet that alot of teams have as they navigate deep into the PO's.
Dan Girardi is a guy that has forced me to eat alot of crow.
gaborik shouldn't have been stupid enough to drop the gloves. girardi was okay on that. yeah he could've gotten involved and taken a penalty, but gaborik should not have dropped the gloves with that man. i give gabby credit for taking the beating.
I too felt Girardi should have been gonzo... and that was wrong wrong wrong... go sit in the corner wrong
Dale Hunter was his coach and I believe Girardi was part of the 31 games without a loss club they had back in the 2004 season. I don't remember where I read it but I recall seeing something that Hunter had called around to various teams about DG.
Apparently NY took his call. Thank goodness for that

You and me both. Same thing that's going on with Dubi right now. Pretty much every single player in NHL history has had a bad season...especially when they're young.

Girardi joined the knights later in the season and didn't play on the team when it had the win streak IIRC.
However, I watched pretty much every game the guy played for us and every night I wonder why he never got drafted. We had a stacked team that year but nobody was more important than Girardi and his rock solid defense.
Still odd to me that he wasn't drafted. I get that he doesn't have a stand out skill or anything, but from what I've read, he was still a steady and poised player back in junior. And it's not like nobody would've seen him play considering he was on that steamroller London Knights championship team (and, according to the Rangers scout who pushed to sign him, was the guy matched up on Crosby in the final series).
He was the best defensive player on that knights team in the playoffs IMO.
However, it was another Ranger, Brandon Prust, who gave Crosby fits during the mem cup.
