Devils Ready to Goon it Up in Game 2?

I don't know about you guys but I'm expecting the Devils to start gooning it up on Wednesday. When we killed Ottawa in game 1 they realized they didn't have much of a chance so the only way they could get back into the series was to disrupt the Rangers with the fights and cheap shots. That definitely threw us off our game but if the Devils try that in game 2 I think the Rangers will definitely be ready for it this time

Ottawa gooned it up because they were unhappy about Boyle pulling a Marchand on Karlsson. The Devils really don't have any incentive to goon it up, but you never know.

That wasn't Ottawa's reasoning.

And I disagree that Jersey will resort to that.

Of course, but that punk DeBoer no doubt has watched the tape and he has a track record of inciting the Rangers. To me it's just a matter of when, not if the Devils start playing dirty

I agree. Unlike Ottawa, the Devils can roll three dangerous scoring lines that hit hard, and it's not like they got embarrassed in Game 1. A few adjustments and some fortuitous bounces can get them right back in the series.

Besides, who's going to goon it up besides Ryan Carter?

i don't think they will. their whole moto over the Playoffs has been walk away or turn away from extra curricular activities. play between the whistles only.

also...other than Carter and Clarkson (who seems like he's hurt or nursing something)......they really don't have the personel. imho

Anyone expecting goonery from any team is in for a disappointing Conference finals.

There is why WAY to much at stake for any team to start that crap.

The goonery crap is for first rounds and Regular Seasons, it's been that way for years and years.

I think I saw a certain look in De Boers' eyes in his postgame presser, he will try to get mucho more physicality and trust his players to be intelligent enough to walk the line (adjusting to the proclivities of the refereeing as required).
I fully expect some of the heavy heavy stuff from NJD.

The devils seem to think they outplayed the rangers and should have won, so I doubt they will goon it up until they feel like they are really out of it.

Well, maybe not 'goon', but definitely more in the Rangers face. I barely noticed Clarkson out there in game 1, but I have a suspicion he will be more noticeable Wednesday. I realize that this is not an earth-shattering prediction I am making, but I think De Boer will want far more push from his guys.

no, i think they believe they have a shot at actually winning this. i don't see it getting dirty unless they go down 3 games to none.

Devils will lose if they goon it up.... They have Clarkson I suppose, but their other fighters don't carry their weight when it comes to playing hockey. The Rangers have solid fulltime roster players that will drop the gloves with anyone.

From what I saw, the third period was the only period that wasn't heavily tilted in their favor. But thanks to our shot-blocking... oh lol the threads on that over in the playoff section.

No gooning will happen, their head coach stressed discipline against the Flyers. I'd be surprised if they do it after playing disciplined hockey, but you never know as these two are rivals

If the Rangers can get that darn ole' PP working then the Devils would think twice about this nonsense. Big IF though.

I doubt they will, but if they try let them. I'm sure the Rangers would be happy to let the Devils do themselves in with dumb penalties.

Bernier is the only guy to look out for. He's been very overzealous with his checks the entire playoffs and he's a big boy. Clarkson is hurt and a non-factor as far as the extra-curricular stuff goes.

They're going to run Lundqvist. Guarantee it. We better be ready to protect the crease.

Well, they're going to have to create shooting lanes or slot havoc by hook or by crook. Going hard to the crease should pull some of Henrik's entourage .

What? why would the Devils do that? They didn't get manhandled, and they didn't play a poor game for the most part.

Ottawa sort of gooned it up, because that's how they play in the bottom 6. They have legit guys that are in the line-up that like the rough stuff. they didn't dress a bunch of tards and tell them to go Bertuzzi everyone.

The Devils just aren't built that way, unless they try to be something they're not. If they dress janssen or any other knuckleheads, they're crazy. They played a strong game, and changing it up to get into more rough stuff would be the best thing that could happen for US. I don't expect Deboer to make such a bizarre decision.

Um, bertuzzi didn't do anything dirty. If you want to make that kind of reference it'd be better to say "go Moore everyone"

All bertuzzi did was get some scrub back for taking out one of their star players. The only reason he got crap for it is because of the outcome.

The option is there for the Devils if they choose to do so. Janssen. Boulton. Neither of them have played yet in the playoffs though and the move would smack of desperation and I don't see it--possibly if some crap happened or a player or two got injured. Janssen at least is a pretty good skater and a heavy hitter not unlike Chris Neil--sometimes a bit on the borderline like Neil and he's got an engine and can go forever in a fight but that's where the comparison to Neil ends as Cam is almost no threat to score or make a creative play or even of any use killing penalties and it would put the Devils in the position of shortening their bench.

The other thing though with these fights this year between the Rangers and Devils--they were mostly just draws--good battles--got crowds pumped up but ultimately of almost no value to the games themselves.

Tactically it doesn't make a lot of sense.
