No it won't.

The Rangers are well aware of the risk in blocking shots.

He didn't say intentionally aim for their head and shoot high. He said they might get hit in the foot or head (which is totally possible if they slide to make a block).

It's all over the local sports shows this morning.

It's not out of context.

Those malicious punks Kovalchuk and Zajac are going to tee up their one-timers to go headhunting instead of scoring on a goalie that shut them out in game 1.

That's going to be sole objective of this gooned up, bloodthirsty Devils squad.

... just in case

I think Marty is a little more tongue-in-cheek, ala Jagr, than people realize.

It's an attempt to incite Rangers fans, nothing else.

Ranger fans overreacting. It's a fact that if you block shots you could get hurt. Brodeur wasn't calling for his team to specifically aim for players, that would be idiotic and self-defeating.

There is nothing wrong with saying you hope that your opponent pays a physical toll for choosing to block shots. Maybe he shouldn't have worded it quite that way, but it seems a pretty innocuous statement to me.

There is also some gamesmanship involved here. Marty isn't calling for his team to crank it into the Rangers' faces (I'm sure he'd rather they shoot to score), but he wants to get that idea into the Rangers' heads so maybe next time they want to go sliding for a block, they're thinking about this instead, and hesitate.

In the end, the people who already dislike Marty will find reasons to confirm that dislike. That's what we're seeing here.

Yea...theres no intent there. Stop crying. You throw yourself on the ice to block a shot, you're asking to get hurt.

Do you guys seriously think that because of Marty's comments that the Rangers will think twice about blocking shots? Hell, they still dove in front of Chara's slapper after Callahan went down last year. This should just get the Rangers pumped up even more.

Marty needs to stop crying.

The manufactured outrage is amusing. As if they didn't have enough storylines in this series already.

SHOT TO THEIR HEAD?

Come on...... just admit the guy is a tool for saying that.

OMG if Sean Avery said something like that the board would collapse

We might be able to hurt a few guys (by) hitting one-timers in the foot and their head or something.

You can debate whether he's saying intent, or whatever, but those are tangentical to the basic point of why on earth would he say something like this in the first place?

Not surprising though. Typical classless Brodeur.

**** happens when Marty comes out of the crease to play the puck. Maybe they should take runs at him and "hopefully he gets hurt."
