He didn't say intentionally aim for their head and shoot high. He said they might get hit in the foot or head (which is totally possible if they slide to make a block).
Those malicious punks Kovalchuk and Zajac are going to tee up their one-timers to go headhunting instead of scoring on a goalie that shut them out in game 1.
That's going to be sole objective of this gooned up, bloodthirsty Devils squad.
Ranger fans overreacting. It's a fact that if you block shots you could get hurt. Brodeur wasn't calling for his team to specifically aim for players, that would be idiotic and self-defeating.
There is nothing wrong with saying you hope that your opponent pays a physical toll for choosing to block shots. Maybe he shouldn't have worded it quite that way, but it seems a pretty innocuous statement to me.
There is also some gamesmanship involved here. Marty isn't calling for his team to crank it into the Rangers' faces (I'm sure he'd rather they shoot to score), but he wants to get that idea into the Rangers' heads so maybe next time they want to go sliding for a block, they're thinking about this instead, and hesitate.
In the end, the people who already dislike Marty will find reasons to confirm that dislike. That's what we're seeing here.
This coupled with the fact that he slept with his wifes ex sister-in-law should get him banned from the league! (Please insert the sarcasm smiley that i don't know.how to do)

Do you guys seriously think that because of Marty's comments that the Rangers will think twice about blocking shots? Hell, they still dove in front of Chara's slapper after Callahan went down last year. This should just get the Rangers pumped up even more.
You can debate whether he's saying intent, or whatever, but those are tangentical to the basic point of why on earth would he say something like this in the first place?
