As appealing as a top talent like Semin is, this isn't where I believe Holmgren should be spending.

I'd love to have Semin on the team, but like others have said, he might be too expensive. It'd be great if we could just swap him and Briere, but that's not going to happen.

I don't think this would be a smart move... our offense is fine, we need defensemen.

I love Semin. But there are problems I would have with this.

1)Cost
2)Him and Giroux have an angry history
3)Sometimes lazy (Not on Zherdev levels though)

If the price was right, i would love plugging a 40 goal scorer to play with Giroux. I think a change of scenery would be good for him, and Semin actually has good defensive play compared to the Radulovs and Zherdevs of the world. It's iffy, but the though of having that type of player on the top line with Giroux's superstar passing...Wow.

While I would have to ultimately agree that I would prefer to spend more for parise, assuming we can shore up the defense in other ways, you should never say never to semin. In my opinion he will go to a team like calgary, desperate to inject some offensive firepower into a depleted ranks and they'll throw him a ton of money, where he can kinda disappear in this league.

That being said, reasons for him to come to philly include:
-Possibly a long term deal in a front loaded contract.
-High-octane run and gun offense that he could thrive in with PP time and so much offensive talent that he can succeed with almost any linemates.
-The BEST playmaker in the league (or at least in the conversation with Sedin and Zetterberg) who made Scott Hartnell an allstar this year.
-Less rigourous travel than in the Western Conference.
-Perennial Competition in the play-offs.
-Fellow Russians like Bryz and Bob.

Personally, I think in the right system, under an encouraging coach, he could become an absolute superstar, but if he is misused, hes basically a more talented Nikolai Zherdev. I offer him no more than 4 years 20 million

Agreed. Semin is a very good player, but we've got other needs to sort out that is more urgent.

He's a dog.

And we do not need to make life easier for the head line writers.

i'd love him for a good price. obviously he is a risk but if you can get him cheap (you won't) he'd be perfect for giroux. i wouldn't mind giving him a shot. plus him a bryz can bound as they talk about how much the fans and media hate them.

I don't get it when people say that Semin has no heart. It's just based on the fact that he is a russian, and here, russian are seen like some lazy ass who are only interested by their big paycheck. If Semin had no heart he would not play hockey. I agree that he is a very streaky guy, but man.. from what i have seen in the series against new jersey and how we couldn't even get out of our ****ing zone and how we couldn't even keep the puck in the opposite end, I think he might add something.

I'm not against it, if we ship someone to get a stay at home D or a true defensive forward to get a more balanced team

In a non-cap world, I'd love to have him on the top line with Giroux. But with a salary cap and considering how close we are to it, the money it would take to bring him in is better spent improving our defense.

He made 6.7 million last year and will probably be looking for a raise, and someone desperate for scoring will probably give it to him. 54 points both his last 2 years, hasn't broken the 30 goal mark either. I'd take him at around 4 or 5 mil, maybe. No thanks to anymore more then that

Semin isn't bad defensively either. He's one of the best defensive wingers in the world. He's just a lazy POS.

Regardless of what he's looking for, I bet he ultimately signs for less than the 6.7M he made last year. I'm guessing something like 3 years, 17-19 million.

What a terrible, terrible example he'd set for the young Flyers. The polar opposite of what Mr. "Keys to the Training facility". Semin to me, is ever bit as talented as Ovechkin, but he kills the team concept and can be an extreme detriment in the locker room.

The Flyers are near the cap every year. This year we have a plethora of young forwards, but need at least 2 defensemen to upgrade our awful defense. I cannot imagine a worse use of 6 million dollars next season than a lazy, under-achieving, chokes the playoffs former Capital forward. Even if he took 4 million, it's still a bad signing unless the plan is to then trade away someone else to free up the cap space necessary to address our biggest, glaring need.

Terrible.
