Will We Surpass 2004 Mark?

Will We Surpass our point total of the 2003-2004 season of 93 points?

I personally feel we will hang around that mark once again this year!

With the absence of tie games, it is IMPOSSIBLE to compare this season with past seasons.

yup, no doubt.

13 games left, we are going to need to win at least 8 if not 9 games to get in.

so 91 pts at the very least ... imo.

Well we had 93 pts. last year. I consider SO games to be like ties. In that case, we've only had 5 ties. Compared to last year's total, that's miniscule. Now, in our final 13 we would match/surpass last year's total if we were to go 10-3 or 9-4. And even then we've suffered 2 more OT losses than last season. Our offense only needs 11 to surpass last season, but with the new goals explosion (up from down around 5 to just over 6) and shootout winners tacked on (2 in our case, 11 in Dallas's case ) I'd say team totals are inflated by about 20%. So 20% of 209 GF is 21. If we don't score more than 230, our offense didn't move an inch despite adding Kovy for a full season and having Markov emerge, etc.

We have 199 right now. I don't think 32 goals in 13 games is too hard, though. So I say our offense, even when you consider the new rules, has improved slightly. Not as much as I'd like, but whatever. Say we average exactly three tallies per game (close to what we've done all year and 3.00 GPG was considered very good in the old NHL but is now merely average). Then we'd have 238 GF to end the season, our best total since 235 in 97-98 (the last time we had an above-average offense I think all could agree-Damphousse, Malakhov, Saku, Recchi, Corson's last gasp). That would fall to our rookies chipping in, Kovalev, good offensive contribution from the D and career years for Bulis and Begin cancelling out the sophomore slumps by Ryder, Ribeiro as well as slightly decreased numbers for Souray and Koivu and the mega-decreased numbers for Bonk and Zednik.
