I'm sure he does too...

There's BIG difference between Jagr and Kovalev...

Jagr had seasons of 62, 50 and 48pts in the KHL before coming back to the NHL...not to mention that Jagr was 10x's the player Kovalev was ever, even at his prime.

Kovalev had 34pts in his last NHL season...and is coming off a 6pt season in the KHL, on a team which he was ASKED (once again) to leave from.

Give me a break

Only a certain group of Habs fans think that Kovalev has anything left in the tank to offer...the guy is done.

Kovalev was done two years ago.....he would be a detriment to the club if he played for free.

Maybe if he agrees to pay Gomez's salary they might think about it

Simple 2 things that sucked with habs last year;

PP
Shootout

He instantly becomes our best forward at both situations for cheap.. I don't care how past his prime he is.. These things don't go away

Ummm yes they do! Kovalev has nothing left to offer. Habs are going with youth. Adding a malcontent magician like kovalev would be idiotic. just retire Alex. For the sake of hab fans everywhere

If that's the case...then I suggest the Habs coax Steve Shutt and Guy Lafleur out of retirement

Shutt was an ace PP player and Lafleur made goalies look like fools on during breakaways.

Afterall...these things don't go away right?

Never go away? What I remember from his last season with us on the PP is gaining the blue line then stop, then giveaway. The guy's hands are still sharp, the rest ... not so much.

You can actually say, and believe, that the way he plays on the PP or shootout wouldn't be good enough to help our PP or shootout which are the 2 areas we need the most help in? And you wouldn't at least check if he still could with a no obligation tryout? Thank god you are not the gm! The truth is I don't believe kovy would accept a no obligation tryout and that is why I wouldn't do it but that is the only valid reason

Jagr didn't have 1 goal and a -13 last year in the KHL. Jagr was a risk. But a risk coming off successful seasons of showing he could still compete at a high level. A risk that ultimately panned out. Kovalev isn't even a risk. His performance the last two years says pretty conclusively that he's done. No gamble in it at all, really.

Kovalev was a really talented player and was incredibly fun to watch. But Kovalev is done.

It is always seem pathetic to me that people always think the "was" will become the "is" even though it will not. This man is nearing 40 and age has caught up to him. He WILL NOT revert to the old Kovalev. It is physically impossible.

Yeah, the crappy quality of our pointmen for most of the season had nothing to do with our sucky power play...oh wait....

Our coach was a genius at coaching the PP...oh wait....
