Just saw the game on DVR. Some thoughts

1. Devils wanted this game much more than the Rangers. Rangers never had the puck, can't clear the zone, can't hold a lead, can't finish their offensive zone chances, can't keep the puck in the zone on the power play (I know they scored 2 PP goals, one game rocketing off the boards, other was a great deflection by Kreider).

2. Kreider, the defense except for the obvious were great. The rest of the team reeked. In particular, Callahan has to bring more offensively. I know he tries hard, but he scored 30 goals this season, and didn't even have a sniff tonight.

3. Criticism of Marian Gaborik is absolutely deserved. Sorry, he EARNED his chateau bow-wow time, he was doing nothing. There was plenty of open ice for him to score and he did nothing.

4. I like Bickel's attitude. Unfortunately, he handles the puck like an atom bomb, just trying to chip it around the boards. That puck should have been long out of the zone.

5. Lost in all this is that Lundqvist was excellent tonight, he had zero chance on any of the goals, and he made some spectacular saves. Wasted effort.

What stupid statement is that? Win enough games and we'll be fine.

The Rangers are 3-0 at the Rock in the playoffs. They beat Jersey in games 1,2 and 5 in 2008 in Newark. They lost game 3 in OT and won game 4 on a Staal goal at the Garden.

Richards has not done much in this series. Same thing with Hagelin.

Kreider is the only forward who has shown up in this series. He will get $175,000 for playing his 15th playoff game on Saturday. He deserves the $300,000 in playoff bonuses which he will achieve on Saturday. $25,000 for 5 playoff games. $100,000 for 10 playoff games. $175,000 for 15 playoff games. $300,000 in total.

The Rangers have scored 5 goals in this series. Kreider is the only forward who has scored an none ENG. Staal and Girardi. Kreider has 2. AA had the ENG in game 1.

Its not only Gaborik.

Callahan has not scored since game 3 against the Caps. That game was played 2 weeks ago yesterday.

Callahan is becoming a major liability. He wasn't playing much on the PK last night, he hasn't been as strong as usual on the puck, hasn't blocked some shots when he has the opportunity, and he's definitely not forechecking well. He had a couple of huge shifts in Game 7 vs the Caps, but aside from that he's been nothing short of awful since early in the Ottawa series. Sorry but Callahan deserves his fair share of the blame, and you're absolutely right, it's not all Gaborik's fault.

When your defensemen have half your goals not counting Empty Nets (I know, only two games) that's a huge problem. Richards (who was obviously fantastic against OTT/WAS), Callahan, Gaborik and Hagelin need to do something this series.

For the thousandth time Gaborik was replaced with Anisimov on that line, not Boyle or Prust, he 100% deserved to be benched

Maybe Callahan suffered a hand injury in the Ottawa series. Game 6. He had two goals in the first 4 games of that series. Callahan was hit in the hand with a shot in game 6. Bone bruise? He couldn't play with a broken hand.

Hagelin used his speed pretty well in Game 1....Richards has done and made a few good plays at least. And both of them are playing hard. Gaborik is a CANCER on that line, drags the whole line down with his lack of effort and unwillingness to ENGAGE. He's like Maverick in Top Gun out there after Goose died.

Gaborik is CANCER out there......he kills this team. No ifs, ands, or buts

Cally has been pretty awful though as well, which is surprising. Not a defense, but at least his effort is there, throwing his body around and trying to make hits. But he's taken bad penalties the last 10 games or so, and his offense is almost non-existant. It is like no plays are developing for him at all

And Gaborik is a CANCER........he's GOD AWFUL

Its the losses that make me realize how much I love being a Rangers fan.

40th season next year for me bleeding blue. Probably missed five games in the last 30 years.

This team is close. Just not enough skill in the top 9 forwards.

Game notes- Cally is hurt. Not a doubt in my mind. Gabby deserved to be benched for being outworked for an entire shift by 3 diff Dev players. Good call Torts. Your d-men are throwing their bodies on the line to block shots and Marion is stick -checking and body leaning along the wall. Unacceptable.

Thought Marty had a pretty easy game all things said. He is the least impressive of the 3 goalies we played so far, but...

His save on Gaborik was down right nasty. One of the best saves i can remember.

If game three turns out as a offensive sleeper for us, then I seriously consider two lone-up changes for game 4. Eminger for Stu, and MZA for either Rupp or Mitch. Coaches call.

Prust,Kreider,Step (way overplayed the slot on the PP goal by Ilya), but played well after that.

Spending way to much time in our own end. Chasing pucks along the boards in the D zone is exhausting. NJ looked much fresher. Their D is their weak link and must be exploited.

We can't force quality turnovers if we don't have the puck.

That "war of attrition" that Torts has been barking is starting to turn NJs way. Got two days to figure it out.

If Tortorella wants to send a message to Gaborik so badly for poor effort and not blocking a shot, leave him out on the ice for 10 minutes. Don't bench him... Hell, I bet we lose doing that too, but at least he is out there.

Well, we are all Ranger fans and this is what we live for. No one said it'd be easy.

I see us benefiting big from this rest. Lets go 3-0 in Game 3's and try something different. Win Game 4.

Stralman should fake a shot at the right point and then shoot from the half wall more often. He Scored a similar goal against the Craps. This time, CK tipped it. Seems to be a spot of his.

Honestly, the Devils don't look nowhere near as good as the Sens or Caps, that's what upsets me about this loss.

Wow. Guess I can skip the rest of the series then, being that you already know the outcome.

They lost a lot of battles along the boards, and looked lethargic in their own zone at times. But I pretty much expected them to lose last night. Series is a long way from being over. Have some faith in the team.

Nope. Everything is all rosy and bright in Devils land today. The only thing they're *****ing about is Torts as far as I can tell.

Yep. Agree. Even with our lethargic play, we were a post away from having a tie game.

After a season with a Winter Classic comeback, 2 game 7 play off series, the bipolar power play, 3OT winner, and the Miracle on Broadway, I have come to expect one thing: an uphill battle.

1-1 going into an arena where we play well. We have a great D and the best goaltender in the world. We also have the ability to score when we need to. This team seems to like to have their back against the wall. Yes, that can eventually bite them in the ass. But until it does, I will cling to my heart medicine, stay up past midnight, hold my breath for last second goals, and believe that this team will come out of the rubble as the lone survivor.

Now let's move on to game 3.

Get it done, boys.

Something has to be wrong with Callahan, he just usually isn't this passive and off his game.

In general the Rangers just have to pick up their focus. I keep coming back to this, but again, the Devils forecheck is allowed to keep going because of how many times the Rangers turn the puck over along the boards at the top of the circles and near the blue line. They make a lot of bad passes to their teammates who are standing at the blue line, they hestitate to get it out and have the puck stolen, etc. They have to get better at that area of the ice because that's what's absolutely killing them defensively right now.

Really, if they fixed that, it would help just about every other area that is struggling. They'd have more offensive zone time, the defense would get more rest and not end up out of position on goals like they were last night, etc.

Devils have a fantastic forecheck and the Rangers need to do a better job getting the puck out of the zone when they have it in a position to do so. Just absolutely cannot afford to keep turning the puck over at their blue line

yup.....he without question is. What games on earth are you watching if you feel he's not. Don't give throw those weak*ss 10 points out there. That's like me throwing Arod hit 50+ Home Runs a few seasons ago.....but none of them were meaningful (he would hit HRs when his team was up 8-0, but never in a crucial spot).

if his so called "10 points" makes him even an acceptable player right now......he wouldn't be getting slammed by the fans. But he is, and righfully so.

Gaborik is a CANCER. No IFs, ANDs, or BUTs about it

The extra day of rest is going to be big although if the pattern keeps repeating itself, then it's not looking great.

Loss
Win

That hits the NAIL right there. Just not enough skill just yet. We are such a Blue-Collar....Lunchpail team. I live these guys. But we clearly need more SKILL

I've felt since the beginning of the season that we are 2 players away from being a True Cup Contender.

#1 A Skilled, Goal Scorer/Playmaker (preferably a Right Handed Shot)
#2 A True Offensive Defenseman that can run the Power Play

And lastly......a Power Play Specialist Guru who can teach us how not to be Stiffs on the PP. We can't set up, and when we do, there is no movement. The opposing PK reads us like a book and is always 2 steps ahea of us in our own PP.

All this being said.......we are "THIS CLOSE" to getting to the Cup Finals. We are pretty much playing with House Money right now. It just would Svck if we lost this chance BECAUSE of the Devils. It just would hurt that much more.

I'm still confident that we WILL WIN 4 before they do.......but it is clear we are still a bit short on the Skillset of this team. Whether we Win or Lose this year......we still will need to address these issues.

Our forwards (sans Gaborik/Callahan/Kreider) just aren't that good. The former 2 aren't even showing up.

I like Hagelin but he's not a top 6 forward. By playing on the #1 line, he's playing against the best d-man/s on the other team.
He's not dynamic enough to score against number 1/2 d-man in the playoffs.

The bottom forwards are completely useless on offense. There are guys who literally haven't scored in months.
That area NEEDS to be upgraded. Say bye bye to Fedotenko....

It is huge problem when your non offensive d-man have more goals than half your forwards.
