Guess that means the deal's inherently broken.

The Leafs need quality back too. Just 'cause there's too many overly vocal Leafs fans who manage to embarass the rest of their fanbase doesn't mean ripoffs are suddenly okay.

Seriously,. You can't use a trade-up as a method to dump cap space. The very suggestion is insulting. People trade down for that crap, not up.

Does anyone find it ironic that some Leaf fans are complaining about quantity vs. quality? Just saying...

Burkie laughs at this. He'd be run out of Toronto if he accepted it.

Almost as ironic as a Bruins fan making the same claim as any player or prospect in their stream is inheritantly better than any other team's assets.

Huh? What a poorly worded retort.

Back to the OP tho, this deal makes no sense for Toronto. It is, in fact, too much quantity for quality. You can get a potential franchise player with that pick, Id hold onto it if at all possible.

I also dont understand why Chicago is trying to get Grigorenko...they have a very competitive core, why woudl they give up assets for a player who wont impact their team significantly for a couple years?

I should think one of them would be enough to trade up. If Emery and Frolik are still in it though, there's no telling.

I have come to the conclusion that Blackhawk fans have become the nu Leaf fan in terms of over value for their own players/ prospects.

Nothing will ever come close to Kane and Saad for Malkin. Nothing.

leafs arent moving the 5th unless it brings in a substantial, quality, young player that addresses an actual need

you cant ask for the 5th overall and then put demands on the team youre asking... thanks for the useless cap hit, and to answer simply, NO!

Apparently, you paid no attention to the Hjalmarsson for Schenn thread. On top of that you didnt even bother to assess Torontos organizational needs.

Burke is not shopping the pick ...he's potentially looking to move up, but, more likely than not, he stands pat at 5

I like how the proposal doesn't include either of McNeil or Saad...

McNeil + 18th overall, and I would consider it. But even then, probably not. Because the 18th overall has a good chance of amounting to nothing or just a second line talent, and McNeil looks like a 2nd line prospect, whereas the 5th overall could end up being a franchise player.

I'll try and spin the best case scenario out of a similar trade and see if id do it.... hmm

Maata falls to 18, toronto gets a 3rd instead of the other junk and drafts ekblad + Hjalmarson....

Maatta
Ekblad
Hjalmarsson

for

Grigorenko...
Probably still wouldnt do it

who am i kidding, there is no chance maatta gets by tampa.

Yup, i agree. Hoping for Gally or Grigs. Need a Center to build with. If Gally,Grigs,Yak and Forsberg are all gone by 5, i have no problem with Murray. Gotta keep this pick.

I'm buying into the Grigs stock drop. Doubting you or anyone else in the top 10 takes him.

If quality is so much more important than quantity, then why are Leaf spare parts constantly being offered to move up in the draft?
