are they up too just not officially? Who is the dude reporting it?

posted on May 14th, 2012 at 2:08 pm According to a tweet from Paul Doyle of the Hartford Courant nine members of the CT Whale are going to be called up to be part of the Rangers taxi squad of healthy scratches.

The Whale were eliminated from the AHL playoffs last week.

3:39PM: Doyle notes that the players being called up are Dylan McIlrath, Cam Talbot, Tim Erixon, Kris Newbury, Marek Hrivik, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Casey Wellman, JT Miller, Chad Kolarik

Doyle covers the Whale for the Hartford Courant. He's a reputable source. He was there when the team broke from the XL Center today. I would trust him. Just because they are on the "taxi squad" doesn't mean they are signed or anything. I don't know exactly how it works but I think if they want a guy to play they might have to make an official transaction. Maybe someone else can shed some more light. Again, I would trust Doyle with that information though.

Yeah, I would guess its like a come-and-hang-in-NY deal for some of these guys. Look at other teams, some I've seen taxi-squads of 10-15 players.

Believe that we are at the 50 contract limit after signing Kreider, which means we must wait until post season until eventually signing JAM and Hrivik, which I hope we do. We could in theory trade away 2 bummer contracts now and sign them both I guess, but that is not going to happen.

thanks for the updates. I imagine Moses was a 4th line option in CT but they can fill that void. Vtank may as well go somewhere else but is he not an RFA? Rangers could still offer him a contract no? They should let him go wherever though. KHL likely

yes he is a RFA but the assumption by most is that he will go to the khl over staying with us and likely ending up in the ahl again.

After the 2010-11 training camp I had good hope for him, he was very good. Sucked this year though. Will make more money to play at home, good for him.

I think it was obvious for half a year now to anyone who looked at things objectively as opposed to "I hope Vally does whats best for our farm instead of his career."

He gets to go back to his friends and family in his own country, he doesn't have to ride the bus from one small town to another and will now be flown on chartered planes, he will be a star at home and not a farm reject like here, and he will make enough money to actually save something for his retirement.

I think the post was referring to the fact he's going to Omsk. The same team Jagr played for when he left.

Eh, I'd rather ride the bus in the U.S. with all that's been going on with Russian air travel as of late.

Bummer he's a good player. So nyr doesn't bother qualifying them?

The organization may still send them a qualifying offer, but only to retain their rights in North America. Any player who is not under contract can sign with a European team. Players are not obligated to sign a qualifying contract.

The tragedy that happened might caused the improvement in this area of quality of life for the KHL, I hope.

Also might give Valentenko a chance a shot to be on the Russian National team (seriously).

Nice! Now get JAM locked up and that would be a great start to the off-season.
