can't wait until we unload guys like Dubi and get us another legit winger.

by next season Kreider will be even better and may play on the first line. i'd be happy with Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash or Zack Parise on the first though and KC on the second unit. Hagelin is fast and generates some chances with his speed but he's a 3rd line guy.

Don't see us getting a big time player in FA or trade this offseason, but Kreider's play puts me at peace with that.

So the Devils took Schroeder? I forgot about that. How is he working out for them? Sorry to derail this thread a bit.

The Canucks took him. He's in the AHL, where he put up 44 points in 76 games this season.

Hey, Lev

In other news, I was reading the 2009 draft thread and damnnnnn most everyone wanted Schroeder and Kreider wasn't anyone's first choice, and when he was picked, several people freaked the **** out about it
Not quite

3) Kreider is the pick for those of us who think he is the best combination of size, skill and skating ability that could be on the board at the time.

2) If no player they see as top ten material falls out of the top ten, they stay at 19. If Kredier is there, he's the selection
Called it.

Haha, yeah I remember everyone was flipping out about passing on Schroeder, and Jas was posting like he just won the lottery.

Liked Kreider before the draft, but thought we'd go BPA. Looks like we did, just not everyone knew it at the time. Myself included.

I was much more disappointed when we passed on Carlson to take Del Zotto in 08.

Was Stepan drafted in 09? Because someone wanted to give up a King's Ransom for Schroeder including the 2nd that year.

Can someone explain to me why a 6'2 200 LB player who can skate like the wind and dominated his (albeit low) level of competition is a huge raw risk and a 5'8 player is not a risk? How many 5'8 players play in the NHL? I think I can count on 1 maybe 2 hands.

Guilty as charged. I actually haven't done too bad recently. I had both the the MDZ and Kreider picks right, and last year, I wanted one of Schiefele, McNeil or Miller. The McIlrath pick is the one I got wrong.

2008. We drafted Ethan Werek with our 2nd round pick in 2009. Then traded him to Phoenix for Oscar Lindberg.

I think we all whiffed on the McIlrath pick. Carlson was definitely my guy in 2008. I loved Scheifele. Kid's gonna be a great player.

Seems like the last two years, both of the "under the radar" picks that surfaced on this board ended up going in the top-10. We were championing Scheifele last year when he was pegged as a early 2nd rounder, and the year before BN13 was pimping Johansen long before most people had heard of him. We all should just keep our mouths shut.

First off, Kreider was my choice MONTHS prior to the draft. At the time Schroeder was considered an elite talent. A sure fire top 10 talent that dropped like a rock on draft day. Could anyone have foreseen that?

And:

Clearly seen several pages after the one you posted.

You were trying to prove something that doesn't exist.

Next time someone tries to paint someone else into a corner get the facts straight.

I knew this player before the draft, and always believed in his abilities.

Now that he's proving me right, haters gonna hate.

What are you going to say when Miller is next?

lol @ the thread title. when we drafted Kreider, I honestly didn't know much about him so it was more of a "huh? what does everyone know about this guy." big and fast, LW, sounded good. the McIlrath draft made me flip out but I got over that. Passing over Dustin Brown still stings to me though. We'd be in such good shape with 2 Ryan Callahans. he fits our team's identity to the T. Blah, let's not visit that dead horse. We were talking about Sergei Zubov and Mattias Norstrom, right?

Yeah I knew nothing about him but his commitment to Boston College was an immediate turnoff for me.

Well, haven't both Wilson and Kerdiles climbed in the rankings? Nice work!

well my man, i'm not saying we should trade him, but i'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. i like him a lot, but we don't need him if we can use that space to bring in a high caliber goal scorer.

Admit I was disappointed with the Kreider pick when we drafted him. The idea of drafting a player out of HS made me since there was a such a huge question mark on them.

Now...I am happy

Im really excited to see what kind of numbers he is going to put up his rookie year.

I really don't think 30G/30A is out of the question..

Yeah im sort of annoyed that Kerdiles rocketed up the rankings. Really liked this player but now i just don't see him being around at where ever we will pick.

If he's gone and Boo is still on the board when we pick, i WILL go ape **** if we don't pick him.

Not saying you didn't like Kreider or the pick, just that you were a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge Schroeder backer in that thread and it's funny to read for no other reason than you were just going off about him so hard

He was an elite talent at his level. Kid had serious talent. That was on display at a higher level at that point.

But he had an attitude problem apparently.

Kid sort of disappeared since then. And the kid i originally wanted, Kreider, has done nothing but improve.

This is one of those picks that we used to complain about never getting right, that we got right.
