The good thing is that Atlanta and TB play each other at least twice. Also, having them play Ottawa and Carolina should help the Habs.

See we play all our games against teams under us in the standings and atlanta is against teams above them, but they are playing damn good, and we are playing ok at best

IF YOU LOSE, YOU LOSE and no SO, it was fun, but it's gay.

What I want to see next year is 5min of 4 on 4 and if still tied 5min 3 on 3. Winner gets 2 points loser gets 0. If the game is still tied which I doubt you would see much of after 3 on 3 each team gets a tie. The league cant complain about the extra 5 min cause these shootouts have take over 10min in some cases.

Nah, ties are just apart of our sport, Go to OT for 5 mins, but really, I don't think there is a point to absolutely get a winner everynight.

I play midget AAA and in a tournament I was in. The rules for OT were as follows:

1 5 minute period 5-5
1 5 minute period 4-4
1 5 minute period 3-3
1 5 minute period 2-2

THEN shootout.

That's a tourny, you need winners. It's like the NHL saying in soccer they have shootouts, but they don't, not during the season. Was the dumbest argument I have ever seen.

I disagree. Ties make this sport boring hockey. If the teams are forced to win to get points like in the playoffs then they play to win. You cant beat playoff overtime hockey.

Ya but the stakes in the playoff aren't the same as in the season.

Excactly and that is the problem with the regular season. I dont believe a team should be awarded for playing for a tie. There should be no ties. You want points you have to win. And not with a lame, gay shootout.

Dont follow basketball. I dont care if a team is 60-22 or 22-60 as long as they play hard for a win and the game is exciting,,,,,great.

Harry neale made an interesting point.

Right now, its the shootout that is the reason why the habs sit out of the playoffs. Atlanta has 6 shootout points while montreal has 2 shootout points.

I like to call em circus points

How do you like the shootout now?

Good for them, they have good scorers.

It has nothing to do with the game. I admit, its exciting but then why doesn't the nfl have a tiebreaker where their QB tries to throw a bunch of footballs through a tire or why doesn't basketball just have a free throw contest?

if you ask me, its a real crummy way to miss the playoffs because one team is better AT A BREAKAWAY EXHIBITION than the other team.

Yeah I know, it sucks, but what do you want... We haven't been in shutouts enough to have 6 wins I think

I want every game to be worth 3 points. A shootout win does not deserve to be worth the same amount of points as an actual win where a breakaway exhibition is not needed.

3 pts for regulation win

2 pts for OT/shootout win

1 pt for OT loss

That can be a good thing and a bad thing. We are trying to catch either Atlanta or TB and if they happen to go to overtime in their two games it does not help us. This is why I hate the current point system.
