Why is the Rangers/Devils Game 3 at 1:00 PM & Coyotes/Kings Game 4 at 3:00 PM?

Does anyone happen to know the reason why Game 3 of the Rangers/Devils series starts at 1:00 PM EST on Saturday and Game 4 of the Coyotes/Kings series starts at 3:00 PM EST on Sunday? What else is NBC showing later that day for having those games being played in the afternoon?

I also know that the Los Angeles Clippers are also playing one of their Playoff games of the NBA Playoffs the same day was the Coyotes/Kings, however why does Conference Semi NBA Playoff game get a later start, compared to a Conference Final NHL Playoff game that could see the Kings move onto the Stanley Cup Finals if they win their next game.

As far as the Kings game goes, it's better that they are playing before the Clips, as the ice surface would just be absolutely terrible if they were to flip from from a court to the ice within an hour or 2 of the game starting. I'm thinking the Kings had first choice on this, as they were scheduled before the clips even knew they were in the 2nd round.

There's this horse race that's kinda huge...

That being said, I don't know why we don't just have the Rangers and Devils play Friday like they should in the first place. I guess that would make too much sense. The NHL tends to avoid things that make too much sense.

I would assume because they want the Kings to play before the Clippers so that the ice isnt affected by the basketball game.

Thats my only guess. Unless its something else involving the networks.

edit: beaten to the punch.

Americans like day games. I can't say I blame them, day games are kickass.

They want an early game on NBC Saturday. Kings can't play earlier than 3 since it would be earlier than 12 local time so only the Rangers - Devils game would fit.

So if the game goes into 2 or 3 overtime periods will NBC switch over to NBC Sports Network, because the 2 hour pre-race show is obviously more important then a NHL Playoff game.

Uhh.. 1 PM EST is actually 1 PM in New Jersey. 3 PM ET is actually noon in Los Angeles.

EDIT: Nvm... I thought you were questioning the difference in their times.

I just read the first question, and immediately started typing and couldn't believe someone would ask such a stupid question.

How boring. Watch horses galloping in circles. Lol no thanks. I might as well watch golf if it came to those two.

Oxymoron? Oh you mean the massive party that happens to be held in the infield of a horse track?

Unfortunately, that's what's gonna happen. I mean I enjoy the ponies myself, but I think they overblow the whole thing.

Saturday's game: http://puckthemedia.wordpress.com/20...this-saturday/
Quote:
According to an NBC Sports spokesperson, Game 3 between the Rangers and Devils in the Eastern Conference Final will air on NBC, starting at 1:00 p.m. ET. NBC will stick with the game through two potential overtimes. If the games goes to a third overtime, viewers in the New York market will stay with the game until a winner is decided. The rest of the country will need to switch over to CNBC for the rest of the game, while viewers in New York who really want to see horsies can see that on CNBC.
Now regarding Sunday's game, LA vs Phoenix.
I'm wondering, what happens to the Clippers game if the NHL game goes into quadruple overtime, and the game ends at around 8:30-9pm?

I'd imagine the Clippers would have to wait or play on Monday? That said after watching what happened tonight I doubt this is going to happen.

It has nothing to do with NBA vs. NHL. The Kings had priority in that that NBC had the ability to choose the Kings schedule before the Clippers (or Lakers) had finished the first round. NBC picked the 12 pm start, freeing up Sunday night for the clippers.

Both the Lakers and Clippers have to play back-to-back games this weekend in order for staples center to accommodate all 3 teams, the Kings are the only team that was able to spread out the games (Thursday and Sunday) and this is because they had the scheduling priority.

The way the Clippers and Lakers are playing, building availability won't be a problem much longer. Yeesh.

Can't believe you guys will be the kings of LA (no pun intended). I expected more out of at least ONE of those teams, but no reason to expect either to do anything at this point.

I don't like horse racing at all, but I hate when people simplify something like that.

Someone could just as easily say "LOL, hockey who wants to watch a bunch of bearded savages run around and shoot a black circle into a net."

What else happens in horse racing? Because I know a metric ****ton of other things happen in hockey.

Let's wait and see what the ratings look like before we act all high and mighty about other sports.

I'm not a huge horse racing fan either but this routine is getting old. There are fun things in life other than hockey.
