Ok, wow, chill. Never suggested them being the only ones who contributed to that comeback. I was making a joke.

This is really it. Add in Briere's constant playoff dominance also.

Recent Flyer's Playoff series:

With Krejci 7-0
Without Krejci 0-4

Chris Pronger + the Leino-Briere-Hartnell line.

Coincidentally the Bruins scored right after that hit.

Carter, much like he has been during these playoffs, was invisible for most of that playoff run. so in essence, you can say Carter is in that Richards/Gagne pic...

also, another reason is for soem reason the defense seemed to play better in front of Leighton as opposed to Boucher

If I recall correctly he didn't play the whole series, because he was out with a broken foot.

The HBL line was good, but they didn't really dominate till the finals. Richards was absolutely dominant during that series. He may not have produced that much offensively in the finals (though he defensive game was stellar as always), but he was very much a Conn Smythe contender (with Pronger and Briere) after the ECF.

Briere and Giroux were awesome, of course, but I think the point of this thread was to discuss what was so different between this year's Flyers team (which finished 5th in the East, but was ousted in the second round) and the 2010 team (which made the playoffs with a shootout win in Game 82, but made it to the SCF). Briere and Giroux have always been good playoff performers. The difference in 2010 was that the Flyers had unreal offensive depth and clutch performances from Richards and Gagne, among others. Richards and Gagne were actually dragged down quite a bit in the final round by a hobbled Jeff Carter (two broken feet) and Gagne had a broken foot himself. Mentioning Gagne's 12 points in 19 games leaves out the fact that 9 of those points were goals, two of them well-timed game-winners. The stats don't tell the whole story. Trading Gagne after such an epic performance still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

That line and Pronger were just as big a part as Gagne as well as the loss of Krejci. That line gave them life in that game 7 while they score 2 quick 2nd period goals to tie the game and I believe the would have scored another time but it was called back due to inconclusive evidence.

plus/minus is extremely overrated. Without either player the Flyers would of been swept by Boston.

these are all good points, but the main reason the Flyers won was because Boucher got injured in game 5

I honestly loved Powe as a 4th liner. Not a lot of skill comparatively, but he busted his ass every second he was on the ice. Was also pretty good at faceoffs and wasn't a defensive liability like some of the other guys.

Agreed. It's amazing how much defence they lost from their forwards either due to trade or injury: Richards, Carter, Gagne, Powe, Betts, Lappy.

That was an absolutely magical run.

I think the point of the thread was to take whatever commonality the Flyers had with the current Coyotes to give the Yotes (and their fans) some hope being down 3-0.

Unfortunately for the OP, some of the reasons for the Flyers comeback play for the Kings, and PHX doesn't have the offensive firepower PHI had in '10.

Sorry dude.
