I thought I heard that they'd like too. However being realistic, I don't see how it would be possible with the money they're already spending on D.

Isn't he one of the Flyers whipping boys anyway? Seems like a lot of their fans complain about him.

Q: Can you evaluate Matt Carle's performance this year and would you like to re-sign him?

"I think Matt had a good year. He's up there in numbers and Matt's a good defensemen. I've said that before, if Matt wants to be here, we'd like to have him back. I don't see any reason why we can't work out a deal. We're in a position now where we cant sign him because of tagging space but this is something that could be done quickly, I think. His demands, when I spoke with him and his agent, nothing was ever out of line. Could we get him under market value? I would say that we probably could. So I don't see any issues there. "

Get him out of Philadelphia, please. He isn't as bad as any Flyer fan/I will say about him, but he's just OK/GOOD. We have several OK/GOOD defensemen. I'd rather spent the 7 million on a #1 than another 4.5-5.5 Million on another OK/GOOD defenseman.

Carle isn't great offensively or defensively, but he can skate and looks competent. Good #2/#3, but we have several of those.

As with every impending F/A, Holmgren says he wants to have him back and he wants to be here. We all know if he wanted to stay here and Homer wanted him to be here he'd probably be signed already

The only way they can sign anyone really is by making some moves. They get ~10% (so 6m) in extra space during the summer to make moves, however they have other players to sign... so chances of him getting signed is pretty slim unless someone gets traded...

He's waiting to see what Suter signs for so he can sign a similar deal. They're practically identical players.

You should be his agent.

In an ideal world, he'd sign with the Pens for long term at 7mil a season...

that's more or less an inside joke amongst Flyers fans.

I forget who made the comparison, think it was some clueless writer that concluded that Carle was just as good, if not better, than Suter

on topic, Homer said he wants to sign Carle, but I more or less thing it's just GM talk. Carle is going to want his pay day, and it definitely shouldnt be witt Philly.

Good riddance

I don't want his back

Want him away from any team I cheer for. His numbers will command 4.5 million, but he isn't worth it. Not even close. Feel bad for Flyer fans watching all those goals go in with Carle on the ice making a weak play.

He'll get more than 4.5 if he hits free agency. 5.5 over 5 years-ish.

What his numbers say and what some desperate GM offer are two entirely different things.

Anyways, I don't think he will get 5.5 million or anything close to that. Can't think of any comparables he would match up to. He doesn't do offense well enough, he sure as hell doesn't do defense well enough. 4.6-4.9 million over 5-6 years would be my guess.

He's a good player who makes a lot of bad plays.

With the Flyers overall defense the way it is, he is a bad fit here. For a team with a lot of "D" first guys he would be a good fit.

I think this is a fair statement.

He needs a strong, defensively-minded partner, preferably with some size. The Flyers seemed reluctant to pair him with Coburn, which always seemed a natural match, particularly after they split Coburn-Timonen up.

Unless Carle is willing to take a pretty substantial hometown discount, I think the Flyers should let him walk and target either Suter or a short-term veteran replacement.

I get the joke, I didn't think for one second that he's serious. I'm familiar with Philly's fans feelings towards Carle and I share their opinion.
