Hey, ult. Seeing you mention proposed arena of Yekaterinburg time and time again, I got to ask - how realistic is this aim to build this arena? With all these rumours of Avto even dropping out of KHL completely, it looks like a longsjot. What's the deal with the city as such? Why is there no money for hockey here, despite city having such s huge hockey traditions?

Well, because it was mentioned time and time again by the governor of Sverdlovsk region (well, now he's ex governor), also the hall is mentioned in a city development plan for the upcoming years. I'm not sure that Avto will drop from KHL, to me personally it looks like they're waiting for savior to be assigned to them by Putin to pump millions into the club (much like Rosneft and CSKA), rather than investing in it themselves. Hard to say.
But even if it's not about hockey, there is a realistic market need for a huge modern concert hall in such a big city, and I believe it will be built anyway, seeing as they have no troubles building skyscrapers which aren't any cheaper than arenas.

Yeah, I kinda wish the league would be much stricter about forcing clubs to drop the Soviet mentality, that good things will happen by itself. Well, CSKA got lucky, but that was more of exception. Too often club owners think that, we gave 20M $ for wages and that's that - our job is done. And then they whine that people aren't coming to to watch games without realizing that everything else besides the hockey is in pretty dire condition in their organizations. Oh well, let's hope Yekaterinburg will get its **** together.
Not next, but in the end of this summer. And no, it's not a rumor. The governor of Tyumen region have visited Mannheim personally to inspect the arena. So it's pretty much official.

sorry, my bad english. By next summer I mean summer 2012. Thx for details, I like club is building it finally.
Agreed. Very impressive and nice. How do you finance all this arenas? Are they private invests only, or ar the citys and goverment ect in it too?
Hope Russia stay and become a even stronger force so we can keep good prospects in europe.
And a little OT question. How many teams do you think the KHL will expand too?
I really do hope they stop at maximum 30 teams.
Look at NHL,they was and are diluted after expanding from 24 to 30 teams.

Some of them are built on federal money, like arena in Sochi, most of the arenas are financed by region, and sometimes a rich oligarch comes to light to finance the construction - arena in Omsk was built on Abramovich money, and then it was gifted to Avangard. Private investors is an option as well, which will eventually become more dominant.
so with Lada building a 6,500 and Samara building 8,500 arenas, what does that mean in regions strategic planning for hockey return? Will Lada move to Samara, will they push CSK VVS into the KHL or VHL?
Samara isn't building anything yet, so hold down your horses.
As for Lada-arena, check it out. They never learn.

Yeah, I've seen that. I just choose to not believe chinushas. And talking about capacity is premature as well, because they don't know what they'll be building, multipurpose arena or anything else, where they're gonna build it, or even when. Just "he thinks bla bla bla". So they'll change the capacity a hundred times.

According to Shalaev KHL will tighten requirements for arenas in the near future, and significantly. Some teams will have to search for new rinks or they'll be excluded. Spartak and Barys for example.
