Yeah seriously, he'd rather not do it so no reporters showing up is exactly what he's hoping for every time he has to talk to them.

It'd be better to just keep asking the same questions they've been asking him, that's what pisses him off the most.

I cant tell if hes really mad. I think its just a game for him and I dont blame him. Id hate to be asked stupid questions every game and Id probably make a joke out of it too.

Tortorella is the NHL's Gregg Popovich. Actually, now that I think about it, I think they might even be the same person. I mean, you ever seen the Rangers and Spurs play on the same nite?

I think there are a lot of things that go into Tort's mindset when he does interviews. Obviously, the reporters asking the same questions over and over again have to get annoying, especially when he's told them repeatedly he's not going to be giving out any strategy. Another thing might simply to be a distraction for the media to focus on.

Would you, as a player, rather have the media focus on why you screwed up during the game or why your coach gives such short interviews?

I agree with you, but at the same time the reporters are just doing their jobs, he could treat them with a tiny bit of respect and not call them idiots as often. He could brush them off with less offensive means I guess is what I'm saying.

If nothing else, all Torts highlights (in my mind) is how inane and absurd our sports media really has become. Listening to the actual questions he's often asked, not just his responses, I can't say as though I blame him for how he handles the postgame.

What I hate is when they ask "Why did you take player X off of line Z". One day Im hoping he just says "Because I ****ing wanted to. Do I need another reason?". I mean, what are they wanting him to say? I think/hope they'd get the message after that.

I think we all forget how classy Kirk Muller is in his interviews. Juxtapose that with Tortorella's BS. I heard a good discussion on PTI about this - the coach is part of management, and thus is governed by the NHL. The league should fine him accordingly. He owes it to fans to allow the media to cover the team as best they can, and he is actively dissuading them from doing so.

Thats fine to say and I agree to an extent, but when they ask questions they can answer themselves is what sets him off.
Ex. Powerplay goes 0-3 struggling to complete any passes and struggled to put shots on net. That's the extent they need to analyze it, maybe a bit more elaboration. Whats the point in asking "So Coach, what happened to the Powerplay?". The reporters just add fuel to the fire.

Losing sets him off, not reporters. He does a 180 after a win. Says plenty, is engaging. He's just a sore loser. That's the extent of it.

I don't get it either... I understand that he, as well as all the other coaches in the league, get asked some pretty stupid questions. However, I don't get how that really makes any difference. The cashier at McDonald's gets asked stupid questions too, but they don't just give smart-tail answers back. I realize it's not quite the same, but he is also a professional and not a cashier at McDonald's. He doesn't have to like it or go into great detail, but he does, IMO, need to be respectful and realize its a part of his job.

When they eventually make a Miracle-like movie about the Kings' playoff run, Sean Penn as Darryl Sutter HAS to be the first role cast.

I can see that sand sculpture being destroyed by drunken fans after the game.

So..how about the epic jinx of Quick before that Phoenix goal?

Strader and Pang talk about how long he's gone without giving up a goal...then Pang alludes to how many saves he's made on how many shots in a certain number of recent games...

Then Richards, Voynov, and Mitchell all fail.

The Kings are the best 8th seed ever.

We've already been over this. The Oilers were the best 8th seed ever, but those Luckercanes caught a huge break when Roloson was ruthlessly murdered.

I still don't get how that Carter trade really flicked on the switch for LA. It's like the complete opposite effect of the Matsumoto trade for the Checkers.

I wouldn't call it "luck" when one's opponents' best players are carefully and coldly eliminated in three different playoff rounds.

More like, "some business youse don't need to worry about".

"Someone's been squealing and we've narrowed it down to Johnny Tightlips or Frankie the Squealer."

Is there any situation where a Simpsons quote isn't applicable?

I am still waiting for an instance to pop out the scene where Fat Tony explains to Bart why it is alright to steal a cigarette truck. It could possibly work with Bettman explaining why a Canadian team had to relocate south.

"And what if your starving family didn't like bread, but they liked hockey. And one hockey player wasn't enough, but they needed an entire team?"

"And instead of giving that hockey away, we sold it at prices that were almost as though we were giving it away. Is that so bad?"

We all know that the Sabres were meant to win the Cup that year. The 06 Sabres team would have easily beaten the 02 Wings in 4 games if given the chance

The 06 Sabres were *THE BEST* team in NHL history. Given ideal circumstances they would have beat the 72-10 mark the Bulls posted, and also went 16-0 in the playoffs.
