Bingo! No sense in my reiterating what you so eloquently stated.

To me Parise is a more talented Callahan. This team has a lot of players that bring his non-scoring qualities to the table. What we're missing is snipers and we'll lose a sniper if we get rid of Gaborik.

This is an exceptionally strange thing... timing not included.

I had been told that JP Parise hated the Rangers and that Zach "Had that Ranger hate in his blood"

If you sign Parise you have to trade Gaborik.

And, i hope that's exactly what happens.

Gaborik has 2 years left on his deal.

And I should point out that the two players do not occupy similar roles at all. Parise is not a go-to-sniper.

If you sign Parise you have to move Dubinsky. Its a left-wing situation. We have Dubi, Kreider, Hagelin, Rupp at RW for next year as of this moment.

JP is probably just saying this to get his son more money. The timing is very odd..

Wherever Zach goes (And he may very well stay) I imagine he wants a lifetime contract.

Can't say for sure, but I have heard this from various media outlets.

Sather said he shied away from bidding on Marian Hossa because of the length of the terms discussed.

Good point...cause Parise has the same amount of goals (4), same amount of those goals being game winners (1), and one less assist so far in the playoffs, in only two less games played. Oh, and he only had ten less goals during the regular season. HUGE UPGRADE!!!

Parise is the ideal target this offseason. He fits right into Tortorella's style of play, he works hard and can put the puck in the net. Whoever called him a glorified version of Callahan earlier in the thread is spot on. This would be a perfect signing if the price is fair, IMO.

He isn't exactly Callahan but he is in that group with Cally and Dustin Brown, maybe Bobby Ryan as good work ethic American wingers.

Not as physical as Cally or Dustin but has better skill set, guy has hit offensive totals which neither of the others ever will.

You left out one very important intangible; Parise COMPETES on each and every shift, is a great penalty killer and gets it done when the games matter most. Gaborik, on the other hand, is the epitome of a "one trick pony" who if he isn't scoring goals(which is often during the playoffs) is a completely and totally useless player for us!

The Rangers are going to hand out another long term contract for Parise? This is his one chance to hit the lottery. He didn't make what he should have made in his previous 4 year contract. Richards made $40M in his previous contract. It still cost the $60M to sign him and they weren't the highest bidder. The Rangers are going to be the highest bidder with Detroit and Minnesota who have the cap space for Parise and Suter?

I think this team would be better suited getting more depth rather than adding another superstar. If we had a 3rd line instead of two 4th lines the scoring would be fine.

Gabby is a goner after the 2012-13 season.

Mark it down

AND THAT'S WITHOUT ADDING NASH OR PARISE.

Gaborik has hit 40 twice in 3 years here...

Was 3rd in the NHL in goals this year...

Scored our biggest goal since 1997...

Is our 2nd leading scorer in the postseason when we're on a run to the ECF...

And we're now trading him because he was benched for a 10 minute spell in game 2.

I think I speak for a number of people when I say what the ****?

Parise is a whole other issue. He is a get your nose dirty player. All we heard in 08-09 is the Rangers didn't have a dynamic presence, and Gaborik has been that and more for us. People shouldn't be surprised that when teams buckle down in the playoffs scoring drops. It drops for everyone save a couple truly special type guys like Richards.

The maturity of Hagelin, Kreider, the eventual arrival of JT Miller, Steven Fogarty and Christian Thomas will give this team a 3rd line that can score.

what we do not have is that 2nd legit scoring threat behind Gaborik.

I believe based on what I am seeing in Kreider in these PO's that he will be every bit a 30+ goal scoring forward in the NHL, but we still need that legit sniper and I believe we look elsewhere for it.

I have no hate for Gaborik. I like the dynamic that he provides.

I personally prefer to retain the youth of the team and come the summer of 2013, the Rangers are going to find themselves between a rock and a hard place as it relates to retaining our core youth.

Moving Gaborik has nothing to do with the player, just an ability to shed 7.5 in salary allowing us to retain the core youth.

Moving the Gaborik contract will allow the Rangers to continue adding picks and prospects so that we can CONTINUE to fuel the jet so to speak.

Fact is cap casualties are a part of the NHL and if you have a system that produces quality NHL players, you can afford to make that kind of move.

Unless he stays at 4.5 million or less which I doubt.
