I don't see how signing Parise screws us if we dump Dubinsky.

Nash has 6 years remaining on his contract. The Rangers have given out 6 and 7 year contracts in free agency. They gave Gomez $51.5M over 7 years. The Richards deal is essentially a 6 year contract. $57M of the $60M is paid in the first 6 years. Thats a $9.5 AAV. The 3 dummy years drop it to $6,666,667. Richards will be 37 years old in the first season of the 3 annual $1M salaries which is allowed to players between the ages of 36-40. What are the chances Richards fulfills the contract? I heard Larry Brooks on NHL XM discussing the Richards contract. The Rangers gave him that contract because of Torts and he took less money because of Torts. Parise will be 28 years old at the start of next season. He will command more money and term than Richards. He can sign a 12 year contract taking him to age 40. The Rangers are giving him a 12 year contract?

Sign Parise for Gaborik money
Trade Gaborik for picks and prospects
Trade Dubi + picks and prospects for Ryan

Roll

Parise-Richards-Ryan
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Anisimov-Zucc/Miller
Feds-Boyle-Rupp

Mcdonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman/Sauer
MDZ-Erixon/Mcllrath

Hank
Biron

Hey, NHL 12 is fun.

In all seriousness though i just dont think you can bring in Parise, we have to many players down the line who will need a raise and i really cant see us trading Gabby who potted 41 goals this year.

Gaborik will be here until the end of his contract and regardless of what some think of his play in the playoffs he is still our biggest scoring threat. As i said in another thread the in my opinion the team will look much the same next year give or take on whether Miller or Mcllrath can make the team out of camp.

All in all, Parise to the Rangers is a no go to me.

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,178,834; BONUSES: $2,100,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $121,166

Pretty close...

Better of course would be trading for Ryan - giving up something like Dubinsky, 1-2 first rounders, mcIllraih/erixon, MSC/Thomas/fasth/Miller... Would this be enough to entice the Ducks to bite? Would lower the cap hit compared to Parise by about 2 million, money we would desperately need for next year when Stepan, McD, Hagelin and AA are up for contract renewal...

You are correct, RB. It is, in all likelihood a retirement contract with 3 "dummy" years as you said.

But you're not going to get anyone to admit to it after the Kovalchuk fiasco.

And what if there is a lockout next year? Do we really want to shell out all this money just for Parise to age one year closer to the big 30?

Why because guys like Holik didn't work? I don't see what the other failed signings have to do with Parise.

i'd only sign him at a cap deal and that is gonna be REALLY hard to do with the unknown CBA status and all. Resigning our guys has to be a top priority. I don't want to have to lose McD to a hold out because we pissed away our cap on UFAs. 2014 is gonna be an expensive summer.

I don't see Parise signing anything less than 8 years.

I'm not sure I would hand out another long term deal, with our core guys eventually being up for new contracts.

So is it because Parise is a Devil or because Parise is an expensive FA? If it's the former then I don't see how it makes the Rangers, the Rangers of old anymore than them signing a non-Devil. If it's the latter, why phrase it the way you did (i.e. don't want to sign an ex-Devil)?

Which I am very happy about. I'm not too keen on long term contracts. I'll gladly eat crow served via Richie.

Relax. Perhaps I worded it poorly. Ex-Devils are but a sub group in the long line of huge contracts handed out from the Rangers.

If it takes breaking the bank to get Parise I'm all for it depending on how we clear the space. Dubinsky for whomever, I'd even look to trade Gaborik for younger players aka Jeff Carter or Mike Richards trades.

That may be true, but it may not be as well. The fact is that Nash has not lived up to his contract, and while I'd love to have him on this team, I don't want to have to give up a ton of picks and young players on top of paying him. Parise is basically half as expensive because all he costs is money.

J.P Parise issued a statement to Devils' beat writers this evening about his comments in a Newsday article today.

J.P. Parise: "I was extremely disappointed in how my comments were portrayed in today’s newspaper article. .."
JP: "I would never speak for Zach under any circumstance. He has not talked to me about anything other than the playoffs ..."
JP cont: "and we have not discussed anything but the playoffs and that is 100 percent where his focus is right now..."
JP cont: "... and I have absolutely no intentions to distract and get things away from his focus right now.”
I'll let you all determine what this means.
