Wouldn't it be sneaky if Burke traded for Backstrom? Then Minny re-signs Harding and runs with him and Hackett for the year? Sneaky sneaky sneaky.

Did you honestly believe that if you put this trade in a three way deal no one would notice the canucks rapping everyone.

Lindback ain't replacin' nothing if anything he'll be moved for a pick and we sign a veteran UFA that has some experience.

It is either MAF, Ward, Vokoun, Miller, Niemi, or Backstrom. Love to see Price to TOR though

If Eklund considers either name a surprise trade candidate, he's been living under a rock.

IF there's anything other than his usual lobbying for website hits via obscure theories - and that's always a big "IF" with Eklund - the candidate I'd predict being the subject is Bryzgalov. He hasn't been talked about because of his contract term seeming impossible to get out of but last summer's Carter/Richards trades showed Holmgren can find ways to unload unhappy players with long-term deals.....and Bryzgalov's frequent mood swings, criticisms of the coach, organization and the fans - plus his mediocre play this year that even prompted Holmgren to publicly criticize Bryzgalov - makes me think the Flyers would love to dump him and make a play for another goalie if they can find a different proven starter like Luongo or Kiprusoff. Who knows even if Laviolette is privately pushing to test the waters if Ward can be had.

Really? Let's see:
Conference Finals: Miller (2) vs. Price (0).
Vezina Trophy: Miller (1) vs. Price (0)
Olympic medals: Miller (1) vs. Price (0)

Need I go on?

People who read, listen, and believe in Eklund are a lot like Nostradamus devotees. Eklund says something vague and speculative, something unrelated happens, and Eklund fans figure out how to make it fit what Eklund said.

For example. "top-end goalie"

T E G

but there is a - in front of the E, meaning none, and end meaning end.

End of middle names.

T _ G

Clearly, Thomas "No Middle Name" Greiss of the San Jose Sharks will be traded.

Was purposed in jest at the very thought of Ward ever being on that list. We don't even have a real backup goalie...Ward plays just about EVERY game. Any trade would have to include a goalie

Here's how I know this rumour is bogus.

1. If this is a 100% done deal, why are the GM's waiting until the draft? All the draft spots except the bottom 4 are decided, and unless you think Brouder, Lundqvist, Smith or Quick are getting traded (lol) there's no need to wait.

2. If you're waiting until the draft, that's to see who's avaliable when you pick. If you're waiting to see at the draft, then the deal is not 100% done.

In conclusion. Eklund is silly.

If both were the same age and had played the same amount of years in the NHL it would be a much better comparison. Miller will be 32 in a couple months and Price will only be 25..

As a Wild fan, I can all but guarantee you it won't be Backstrom. Hackett isn't quite ready to take over the starting role, there's no guarantee Harding is re-signed, and Backstrom has a NTC that you would have a hard time convincing him to waive since he loves playing here.

Not true at all. Dont have to even get into it but there are several other goalies that the Pens would rather have in net.

That would be a scary trade. Rinne could cover for the defense while the offense comes of age and in Nashville they would get another Russian scoring talent.
I doubt it has any baring on Rad's staying or going at all, but maybe SK gets AK to stay, and buy into the system.
3 solid scoring options while still having their solid core.

What happens to Dubs and Khabby?

I'm in the group that believes its a NorthEast goalie. Undecided of Price and Miller. I dont see why it's a discussion if either are in the tops of goaltender talks, both are solid and the leaders of their teams.

Who would be willing to not only pay a price for Carey in trade, but also fork over the cash?
How about Miller? Buffalo still lacks a true #1 center, but only Tampa has a need for a goalie and a #1 center.

Wouldnt they rather spend all those top 60 draft picks and try for Carey Price?

First off, I don't put any weight on anything Eklund says ...

But if we're going to play the "just suppose he's right this time" game, then why would Ryan Miller be the obvious choice? If the thread title is to be believed, it's a goalie who has "not been talked about to be traded". Miller's name came up quite a few times this season in trade rumors.

IF Eklund is to be believed (which he isn't), then I'd think it's someone like Thomas or Fleury. Neither guy's name comes up in trade talks, yet both have legitimate reasons for why their team might deal them (Thomas, because of Rask; Fleury, because he's been largely awful in the playoffs since the Cup win).

I don't think it's Fleury.

And I don't think Pittsburgh would rather have anyone else in net than Marc-Andre Fleury, 1 bad playoff series doesn't make him one of the most overrated goalies in the league. The guy struggled at the beginning of the last season, then ever since November 2010, he's been solid excluding his playoff performance against Philly.

Not to derail this into a Fleury thread, but come on. He was awful in 2010 against Montreal as well. In fact, you could argue he let in even more soft goals that series than he did against Philly this year. The difference was Montreal's offense wasn't as potent as Philly's, so it might not have shown as much in the overall goals against.

He was also just average versus Ottawa in round one of that season, and solid, but not great against Tampa Bay last year (got outplayed by Roloson).

That's more than just the Philly series.

He's been outplayed by the opposing goalie in 3 out of the last 4 playoff series the Pens have played since '09, and the only reason he isn't 4 for 4 is because Elliot was just awful against the Pens (LeClaire actually played better than Fleury when he finally came in in relief of Elliot, but the Pens were just too much for the Sens that year).
